Fat burning vs. Aerobic

I have been hearing different things about target heart rate. Is there really a big difference between the fat burning zone and the aerobic zone? Do you really burn more fat by working out at a lower heart rate?

you do burn more fat at lower intensity, but it takes longer time to burn it, so you walk for an hour and burn 200 calories at the low heart rate

or you can run for 60 min at a high intensity and burn 600+ calories.

of those "calorie" more of the energy from the walk comes from fat storage, so technically yes more percent of the calories are directy burning fat, but when it comes down to getting the most for your time, i would stick with the high intensity.

Also, for the weight you are at, you would REALLY benefit from doing HIIT (high intensity interval training) -- TRUST ME.

try it out, you will see the results you are looking for.

Yes there is a difference. In the fat burning zone you may burn less calories but the number of fat calories you burn will be much greater then when in training or cardio zones. For most people working in the different zones really makes a difference. For me working in the fat burning zone really didn't help me any so I usually try to work out in the cardio and training zones. For example, my fat burning zone is 95-125 and yes I know this cause I actually did the metabolic testing to find out what all my zones are. Let's say my heart rate stays in the 140-155 range for 30 minutes and I burned 300 calories, probably less then 10% if any of those calories would be fat calories. If I walked for 30 minutes at a HR of 100 and burned 150 calories about 75 of them would be fat calories so you can benefit from working out in that zone. You should train in all 3 categories but they don't have to be in the same workout. typically my training workouts are when I work with my trainer. I leave the actual fat burning zones for when I do stuff like cleaning and yard work. Most of my time will be spent in the cardio zone.
