Scale is Just a Number...

Yes, we hear all the time "a scale is just a number". I was losing weight like a champ until this past week when I gained 5 lbs back (literally overnight). Not sure if this is water retention (since I have hardly been peeing), muscle gain, both, or something else.

At any rate, here are 2 pictures, taken two weeks apart of me at exactly the same weight. The picture on the left shows my thighs and hips much slimmer and I have more of a waist than the pic in the right. Moral is, don't just let numbers be your guide. Every week, I take a photo (same time with the same camera for consistency) and compare them. It's a huge motivator for me. Even though the scale says I didn't lose, but I gained weight, the pictures tell a whole other story:

At first I thought, what's the difference and that was even before I read your post. However you are correct. Your hips are slimmer.

    Keep up the good work!

Whenever i start exercising, i put on weight.....which i am doing now......scales will be going in the loft and i will start taking pictures. That is an amazing difference in 2 weeks. Your hips and stomach have both shrunk. I spend far too much time worrying about how many pounds i'm going to lose!!! Thanks for the post :)

I thought about doing this same thing, because I gained two lbs this past week and felt sad about it even though I felt thinner. It's helpful to see the difference in you. It's definitely apparent! Thanks for posting this.

Good work! Your on the money - scales are only part of the outcome - have you taken measurements? I was deversated my last monthly weight in I only lost 500g despite uping my workouts & keeping food on track then my trainer took measurements - 4cm on hips, 1cm on waist etc etc

When you build muscle it weight more than fat so you may actually have lost weight.
