I'm going over to a friend's house tonight and they made home-made vanilla ice cream, so I'm trying to plan ahead and figure out how much to eat...does anyone know if home-made ice cream has roughly the same nutritional content as store-bought? Just want to get the best guesstimate I can :) Thanks!

best bet is to ask them for the recipe and enter it in to find the exact cals.

it really depends on how they make it. when we make it, it is considerably less than store-bought because i like to use a lot less sugar. but some people go all out and make a custard base, which will increase the numbers, so best thing to do is just enjoy it and stick to less than a half cup. :)

Be casual, say, "Wow, this is so good, can I have the recipe?"

Thanks! I just went with having a small portion and chose a generic vanilla ice cream to add the cals. If we do it more often I'll get the recipe :)

I don't think it would be as bad as bought ice cream. When i make homemade ice cream, i use skim milk & fat free half & half. So mine is fat free, but it still has the sugar in it. It is good.
