Zig Zag is just a way to "trick" your body into thinking it's not really on a diet; because you have low calorie and high calorie days. You still burn the same number of calories in a week; but instead of say 1400 calories each day; some days you might only have 1200 and others you may have 1600. Here is a site if you want to check it out. http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm
Be careful though; when I actually figured out the numbers based on excercise level; I found what they considered a calorie burn for 3x a week was much higher than what I was actually doing. Once I figured out what I actually burned and added that to a non exercise level; I found it worked pretty well until I got lazy and kept pushing off my exercise. I'm back tracking my exercise on MFP because it's easier for me to know if I need a high calorie day I need to work for it and log it.

The above poster is correct. Another benefit of zig zagging is that your metabolism spikes, which I needed very much!

    I did 1200 then 1800.

In three and a half weeks I was down 5 lbs and 4 1/2 inches! It was very helpful. I've since had to stop zig zagging because I think my body caught onto my trickery   I'll be back to it though.
