So i made some turkey burgers for tea, and put them in a salad. Mixed dried chillies, spring onions and minced turkey and they were lovely. So i added them to the diary, using the packets nutritional values (which i wish i had looked at first!!) and found that 200g of turkey had 336 cals (okish) and 39 g of fat (OMG:yawn: )

Anyone else found this??? or use another brand??? I use Tescos in UK

You have to watch what you are buying just like beef. I look for the 97 percent lean in both ground turkey and beef.

Weird that you say this as I noticed the same thing. Went to buy turkey mince on Thursday to make a lower-fat spag bol. Picked up a packet and it was higher in calories than the minced beef, which puzzled me. Then I saw an extra lean version (of the turkey mince) which was lower. This was in Sainsbury's, so maybe Tesco don't have the extra lean version. I was surprised by this though as I assumed turkey was naturally very lean...apparently not!

Some ground turkey or chicken includes the skin. A certain amount of fat is necessary in a ground meat so it isn't dried out. Not sure it you're up for it but try buying a turkey breast and grinding in a food processor; you can add whatever fat you want (ideally a healthy one like olive oil) or a slice of turkey bacon. Using MFP was a real education in calories for me. Nothing like a shock to cure me of stuffing nuts in my mouth :-)
