Not sure how to get past this. Maybe some of you had had this happen.
I know I have dropped weight. Everyone tells me how good I look. One even said I was going to be a model soon. Yeah, right...LOL don't have the right bone structure. My husband says I look great.
My problem? Every time I look in the mirror I still see the fat woman I was. I still Feel fat. Husband takes pictures to prove to me I'm not but I still see the fat girl. Our camera needs special software to download on the computer now. The old camera that did work died a while ago. We plan on getting it soon.....but till then I can't show new pictures.
Heck I don't even know if I am in the right forum to post this.
Has any one had this happen and how did you get past it?

I know exactly how you feel and I went through the same thing.
Even after losing 60+ pounds I was still looking in the mirror and since I don't have a very good memory of what I looked like at 220 pounds I still saw the fat woman in the mirror.
Everybody would say how skinny and healthy I look and how amazing I look but I seriously just could not see it for myself.
I'm going to tell you right now that it's all in your head. It's years of looking in the mirror and actually seeing a fat person and we are just not ready to see the truth.
I don't actually have any thing to offer you to help you get over it but I can tell you that for me, it was extremely sudden and extremely shocking.
I was at the gym doing my weights in front of one of the mirrors so that I could watch my form and as I was watching myself it hit my like a tidal wave. I was like "HOT DAMN! Look at that! Look at how good I look! Look at my muscles! Look at how small I am!"
Thankfully I had the presence of mind to not say any of that out loud but I did stand there for probably a good 5 minutes staring at myself in disbelief.
So maybe just give it a bit more time and maybe you'll have the same sort of 'Ah ha!' moment.0 -
Hello!
Great question and REALLY struggling with this myself! I really don't know how to combat this problem - like you, people say I look much fitter, healthier and thinner (some even saying I shouldn't consider losing the next stone and a half as it'll be too much weight loss), but I DON'T SEE IT! My stomach is still there, my double chins are still visible, I still wobble and have jelly like moments when being active and I still see the 'fat me' in the mirror. I've carried my excess weight for nearly 11 years and so maybe my mind won't accept it's going/gone until its been gone for that length of time? I don't have a clue how to go about accepting my new shape - so if you do suddenly find a cure - please pass on your ways!

I have had the same problem. I have lost 105 pounds but sometimes I still see a fat girl in the mirror. I do a lot of self talk these days. I went to a women's seminar and the speaker said to look in the mirror everyday and say to your self that you are beautiful just the way you are so I started do that. It has made a big difference. I am starting to see the beautiful me that is inside. In turn, I am starting to see a beautiful woman on the outside.0

I am with you! I am 10 pounds from my goal, dropped two pants sizes, and still see the overweight girl in the mirror. I am hoping to have the "aha!" moment where it all clicks but I am not there yet.0

I hope you are soon able to see yourself as you truly are... healthier, thinner, more capable.
For me, it's always been the opposite... I never truly see myself for as large as I am (because I carry it well) until I see a picture of myself. Once I see that then there's no denying... (and it never looks like me, damnit!)
I hope the mirror isn't messing with my head too as I go through this! I can see a difference already and my clothes are starting to fit nicely again.
Good luck to you.0 -
I couldn't see the thin person I'm becoming until I saw some candid pictures of me. Right after I saw them I measured my waist. I put on my size 8 shorts that I could button before but looked like a stuffed sausage in, they were baggy. Finally, I looked at my naked body in the mirror. I screamed "HOLY ****!"
You need to look at those pictures and compare them to old ones. Put on your old skinny jeans and feel how baggy they are now. If you aren't ready, then don't do the nude mirror. You are your own harshest critic.0
