Hey there! I'm new & left another blog about the difficulty of eating healthy w/ time constraints. I have an Autistic son that keeps me busy. Don't mean to bring anyone down, he's great, just I have little time for myself. Nights are my worst time - I eat really late & I like to drink wine to relax at the end of the day. Any other sinners out there w/ some new ideas on how to keep on the straight & narrow while still keeping your sanity?

  • Hi, I'm new here too! I used to work with autistic children as a line therapist. We used to do things together like jumping on a big trampoline (they had a farm so they had lots of room outside), walking to look at all the farm animals, tractors, and big trees, and I'd chase him around while he practiced riding his bike (with the training wheels) which were all pretty good workouts. We also worked on skills like hand holding and him not running away from me and of course coordination skills. Then I'd use whipped yogurt as a reward afterwords for a job well done since that was his favorite snack. Would you be able to incorporate some of those things? Not sure if he tolerates the yogurt or what type of environment you live in, but if you could go for walks together, or have a healthy snack together at night, maybe that would help. Oh, and in the summer we would swim together sometimes too!

Oh, and as far as "sinning," why not just keep the bad stuff out of the house? I plan things out when I'm at the grocery store. I buy kashi bars, carrots, and apples for my snack. I make sure I have ebough for each day so I'm not eating 3 apples a day and getting bored.

I tend to be a late night snacker also. What I would try to do is keep a bunch of baby carrots, celery sticks or other fresh vegie or fruit you like cut up and in the front of the fridge at eye level. Then make sure that the rest of the snacks in the house are a little harder to get to. For me snacking isn't so much about what I'm eating, just the eating. So when I go to the fridge I usually grab what is easiest. If i have carrots sitting right in front and are easy to get to I eat the carrots rather than searching for something else.
