I am a military wife who moves around a lot and struggle finding friends. I never used to have a problem with it but as I get older (and have become heavier) it has gotten a great deal harder. I just moved to a new area in Winston Salem, NC and just dont' know where to go to get support or find a walking/running/workout buddy. I LOVE this site so far and it is very encouraging. My eating habits have definitely been changing but it is so hard for me to get out and work out. When I was in my thinner days I always seemed to have workout friends. My husband works out,.. but is on a WHOLE different level than me and we've tried to do it together but it just doesn't work. We are in the process of joining a gym but waiting on military paperwork to go through but even then I'm so shy to go to classes alone and never do.

Any ideas? Tips? Please help!

I'm a military wife too and I know how hard it is to move around and make new friends. At my gym they have people who help you get comfortable in a class by helping set up your weights or any other equipment you might need. Or have you thought about hiring a trainer?

Yes, I've done the personal trainer,.. but thats SO expensive. I don't have a problem doing the classes,... I am just SO intimidated. I hate starting not knowing what i'm doing or not knowing anybody. Everytime I've tried to go to a class everyone already knows eachother and it seems so clicky.... I always feel WAY out of place and alone.

Maybe if you told yourself you aren't there to make friends but get in shape and loose weight you could work up the courage to go. I bet once you go to one class you would be able to go to more and eventually find a work out buddy!
