defrosting fish

Hi all

I stupidly forgot to leave the salmon fillets out of the freezer this morning for dinner. Is there anyway I can safely defrost them quickly this evening when I get home?? I would prefer not to use the microwave as for some reason the defrost setting seems to cook things slightly (I've tried defrosting chicken in the micro and it goes a funny colour which weirds me out!!).

Any ideas??

Place it in a cold water or if your in a hurry. place it in a bucket in a empty sink and let cold water run over it

I put fish and chicken in ziploc bags and then run cold water over them....or let them sit in a bowl of water for a while....

yep.... soak it or run it under cold running water. It will be thawed in no time!

it won't take long, just put them in a plastic bag - like a ziplock and put it in warm for like 15 minutes. (NOT boiling). Works like a charm every time. I never defrost fish. Or chicken...or anything else for that matter...

I have defrosted fish in the kitchen sink with Cold water running on it. It usually takes less than 1/2 hour depending on the size. This also works for chicken as well. Be sure to keep them sealed while defrosting though.

agree. put in a large bowl of cold water and let a steady stream of cold water run over them, shouldn't take that long to defrost. Cold water not warm water for safest way

Put cold/cool water in the sink (or a large bowl) and set the frozen package into the water. It may take an hour or so - but it should thaw safely. (Thawing in the micro grosses me out too) Good Luck.

    :o)
