Okay, one of my biggest problems is my calorie count..... I can't get it over 1000 without going over my fat and carb count for the day. I always have a problem having enough calories.....

What healthy foods can I add to increase my calorie intake without going over everything else. Even before I used to try and add EVOO to my chicken when I grilled it but even that has 14 grams of fat per serving....

Any ideas? My carb count is already higher than what I would like at around 50 per day... I used to have it at 20 per day but I would like to keep it at around 40 per day...

Protein Bar? I always try to get one in that's low in sugar and carbs.

    Try veggies.
  • Switch to fat free items...fat free cheeses, sour cream, milk, mayo. Those are usually the items that have high fats. Also, switch to egg whites only. It was really surprised what a difference that made.
It is hard figuring a lot of this stuff out. There are some really good cookbooks out there and this site is very helpful. Good luck!

Don't stress about the details -better to make sure you are getting enough food - real, healthy food - first, then look at the macros later. Unless you are eating pure protein, your food is going to have carbs and fats - that's what food is made of! 50 carbs is VERY low and the fact that you are struggling to eat enough makes me think that you aren't getting a healthy balance, that can't be good for your body in the long term.

This. But try for high protein things like eggs, milk, chicken, fish, lean burger...

Watch your protein intake though. Too much of it can cause damage to your kidneys.

I'm new to this forum, but there seems to be a huge phobia of fat from what I've read. Fat will not kill you. Fat is good for you and is necessary for your body to function.

Don't worry about olive oil. Have some avocado or some nuts.
It'll get your calories up to somewhere decent and will provide you with some good healthy fats.

You aren't going to damage your kidneys unless you're eating more than 300 grams of protein each day, something you can't possibly do on a 1200 calorie diet. If you're looking to lower fat and carbs, that only leaves lean protein as an option. Some ideas:

    boneless, skinless chicken breasts
    canned tuna or chicken
    shrimp
white fish (cod, tilapia, ono (wahoo), etc.)
    very lean hamburger
    lean cuts of beef
    low fat tofu

I definitely agree. Plus, egg whites only have a lot of protein and taste just like scrambled eggs if you buy the Egg Beaters Egg Whites. (1/4 cup = 30 calories!) It's suprising how healthier foods are just as yummy!

Try Hungry Girl too. Her recipes are low cal and typically have lower fat. She puts them up against typicals like fast food items and they taste almost IDENTICAL.

I have all of those foods in my daily food journal... I even made an egg white snack with tomatoes for later this afternoon but I am still short by almost 400 calories... I tried to add more but veggies and chicken don't have a lot of calories...
