I am on here and I see how many people lose all this weight and lots of inches, and jeans sizes....

My problem is that I have lost 55 lbs or so since around Oct 2010 but I have only lost 1 pants size, and since I've been measuring around March I've only lost about 9 inches. How can I lose 55 lbs and lose hardly any inches and only 1 pants size? That is so discouraging for me......I mostly need to lose weight in my stomach area, and it is not an easy thing to do! Anyways, I am done venting now, thanks for listening. :ohwell:

I'm definitely in the same boat!! I have lost about 40lbs total (since before MFP), and haven't even gone down a full jean size. I have one pair of favorite jeans that I wear all the time, went to the store to try on the same exact cut in a size smaller and it was too tight! Meanwhile, the ones I have are a little too big!!

It's so frustrating because I see people lose 20lbs and drop like 2 sizes! Every body is different!

Hw tall are you? I know that it doesnt always show as quickly, or make as much difference when you are shorter ad have a lot to lose. Hang in there. It will happen! 55 lbs is a big deal and you should be super proud of yourself!
  • Do you do cardio and really sweat?? I run and do the stationary bike (vigorous) and I found that's how I lost inches.

Not just you. I started at 212 and lost 31 pounds, 1 pants size, and about 5 inches. My arms and legs are noticeably more toned, but my midsection is just determined to stay the same basic potato shape. On the other hand, I wore a sleeveless shirt yesterday for the first time in forever and did not feel anxious about how my arms looked. And my legs are definitely better suited to shorts now than they were when I started. :-)

9 inches is a lot, 55 pounds is also a lot! Everyone looses differently. I know you don't want to hear it, but it will come, you keep persisting and it will come. There's pluses and minuses to every size when you start. The bigger you are the less you have to do to lose more weight (for someone 250 walking a mile burns many more calories than for 150 pound person). On the other hand 10 pounds lost on the 150 pound person is more significant in appearance than the 250 pound person. I'm sorry that your road seems so long, but I promise that all the little milestones along the way will make a huge difference when grouped together and the baby steps is how you will make it to the end.

Thanks everyone! You have all made me feel better, it's just hard to not get discouraged sometimes. And I am 5'10, so I'm not sure if that makes a huge difference or not. Also, I know some people say the last 10 lbs or so are hard, but I've got like 20-25 lbs to go, if that's where I am comfortable. I will try and do more cardio and see if that helps. Thanks again to everyone!

P.S. The 9 inches I lost was total, between boobs, waist, and hips. Not just in 1 spot.

I just have to say that the book "You on a Diet" focuses on how belly fat is made and how to combat it because it is extremely unhealthy.

Doesn't matter where it came off, only that it did. Yes, in my book your height does play a roll in how it comes off and how it looks. Good for you, being so close to your goal!
