Why all the sit ups? If you did 300 arm curls with resistance, your arms wouldn't get any "toner" or stronger (unless you were progressively increasing the resistance), but you would build muscle endurance. So is the goal here to build muscle endurance in your abs?

U have a valid point, but guess what, its only a week-long challenge...any gains made is a gain earned!:noway:
Here's another valid point. If your abs aren't used to hard exercise and you exert hard resistance on them, like any other muscle they will GROW a little. I don't think the point here is to grow abdominal muscle.

Eventually, the goal would b to grow abdominal muscle and get a "winning" 6-pack...but again, that is a long-term goal. No offense Ninerbuff, but relax a little...this is only a week long challenge for fun and endurance! Now, are u joining in or typing away ???

I dont agree. The stomach is your center. If your stomach is weak it will impact all other activities. A special concern is that many of us are not close to our goal and are more apt to be injured do to the neglect of the core. Adding resistance (weight) will only make the muscles bigger.

I think that a variety of core exercises are needed but to start with a simple goal of 300 per week (about 45 a day) is modest.
If you are exercising correctly, you will contract your "core". While I agree that direct ab work is good for strengthening the area, 300 crunches a day is overkill.
Being a PT, I can verify that doing 3 sets of 20 reps for crunches and a leg lift of some sort, with strict form (which usually doesn't happen with people who haven't been checked to see if their form is correct) is sufficient to strengthen the core. This is also verified by clinical study by the Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness.

Oh glad to know u r a PT...my boyfriend is a PT and a Pro Body Builder...so rest assure all of my actions are guided by his expertise. I will admit, he does agree with you to some extent, but he believes it is a non-factor in this ONE-week challenge!!!

Nah, I'll pass. Fortunately I have a 6 pack already and with all the kickboxing and compound lifting I do, I haven't had to train abs for strength. Good luck though.

That's cool. What's his name? I probably know of him since I'm an avid follower of the bodybuilding Pro circuit. In fact I was at last year's Olympia and Arnold Classic.

Oh that's cool, he's looking to get out to view the Olympia in Sept. And btw he isn't an IFBB Pro, he is a natural competitor. But' I don't want to put him on "blast" by saying his name!

I'll watch the Olympia and Arnold for the freaks, but prefer naturals much more (mainly because I've trained that way my whole life). Did he ever do MuscleMania?
