I was at a natural food store on the weekend just checking things out and a woman was talking about the imporatance of being "Alkaline" and eating alkaline foods.

Could someone please explain this to me? Or send me in a direction to find out more information.

I don't want to mess up what has been working for me thus far, I was thinking of adding alkaline foods into my diet rather than going at it with an "all or nothing" attitude and therefore setting myself up for failure.

Thank you for sharing any opinions/ comments.

Some of the alkaline biggies are broccoli, kale, sprouts, cucumber, avocado, garlic, watermelon, and (ironically) citrus fruits. Also mineral water :) The most acidic foods include red meats like beef, veal, and pork (yes, pork is a red meat), canned sardines and tuna, artificial sweeteners, alcoholic drinks, and coffee.

Here are some pretty simple charts, though I've seen elsewhere that good olive oil is very alkaline: http://www.rense.com/1.mpicons/acidalka.htm

I agree with above. Veggies are the most alkaline. Alkaline is the opposite of acidic. Your body has a pH balance, and stays in a balance between the 2, and if it gets too acidic or too alkaline, it's really really bad. But most people who eat the average diet lean a little toward being acidic, so alkaline foods balance you out. I believe wheat grass (like, blended into a liquid), is the most alkalizing thing you could do to help yourself out if you think you might be leaning toward acidity.
