So this morning I woke up tired... again... late nights/early mornings... we all have them. I saw the post this morning about the sleep stuff, which is great info... doesn't help me today though.

So my question is what kind of foods or things do you use to get some energy on days when you're extremely tired?

I don't do coffee, unless its fru fru, which totally negates the purpose of all this, soda is ok, but still not a good choice, i have some of the metabolism booster pills with caffiene, may take one of those, but this brand makes me sick, too much caffiene i think. I don't do energy drinks either, yuk... or gatorade or anything like that... so that kinda leaves me at a loss as to a healthy way to get some energy... and i have a desk job.

so any help would be great.

My husband likes the 5 hr. energy. Don't know if that bothers you. Otherwise I think water will help. I don't like black coffee, but if I cool it, blend in some protein powder, and pour over ice; I like it.

Healthy fats, protein and some complex carbs are what I use. I rarely drink coffee now, and its not for the caffeine, its for the flavor and usually about 10:00

Apples have been proven to be more effective than coffee for an energy boost, and the boost last longer than that from coffee. So have an apple.

Apples and water - believe it or not - have been proven to wake you up and get you going more than coffee...
Something in apples and i don't know the water just helps me :)

I'm an AVID coffee drinker, but I've cut back SO much because I don't "need" it anymore thanks to things like that...

Also - a good protein source in the morning will help kickstart your metabolism which gives you energy to :)

    hope it helps!

I usually go for green tea or a Shakeology. I haven't had to drink an energy drink of coffee since eating cleaner and healthier.

What are some good complex carb choices? I'm not really even sure what complex carbs consist of.

Green tea,. It has more caffeine than coffee and it's good for weight loss so they say.

I had the same problem this morning and I'm not a coffee drinker but for some reason I didn't feel like tea. But I found a packet of fancy hot chocolate and made myself a mocha :) Not diet food but I needed a pick me up and I feel so happy now that I have a treat

I started drinking Shakeology in the mornings. Its a bit pricey, but since I no longer drink coffee, soda, or fru fru drinks, it all balances out! Plus it's healthy and full of lots of good stuff!!!! I don't like energy drinks or pills b/c i'm always worried about what's in them :(

Veggies, brown/jasmine rice, whole wheat/multigrain breads, ect. Basically, the healthy version of the usual carbs you eat ;)

I usually get a cafeteria Omelet - Onion, tomato, spinach, asparagus, olives, Ham, cheese, 2 eggs.

I agree with protein and healthy fats.... as well as adding 500mg of Vit C. It's good for helping your body deal with the "stress" that comes along with the late nights/early mornings... while it may not wake you up it will help your body heal.

I need my cup of tea in the morning otherwise I can't function. When energy levels are particularly low even after that, I agree with a lot of the others above - apples!! That and a lot of water. Keep the apples in the fridge if you can so they are cold and more refreshing. Try and keep away from sugary stuff (which I know you know already) because of the crash that follows. Hope that helps even a little bit.
