This is NOT for everyone yesterday I tried it got REALLY SICK dry heaving and just sick thought it might be something I ate after a few hours felt totally fine, This morning tried it again and here I am REALLY sick again, huge headache, chills and just all around ready to throw up. Lesson learned that not every "drink" is for everyone I always hear such positive reviews on green tea and so i decided to google "green tea makes me sick" to realize SO many have the same symptoms.

Reason for this post is for those with not so positive reviews and to let people know its not for everyone so be careful .

Green tea hits me differently sometimes too. I can drink it for awhile with no problems, but then one day out of the blue it will make me sick(like throwing up sick). I've been drinking it cold as a sub for ice tea with no sugar but today it tastes weird for some reason. I thought it was just me who had this reaction.

I know that for some people, they can't drink green tea on an empty stomach (at all), with out it making them sick.

As for me, I just can't agree with the taste of it, so I stick with different types of teas.

I just was shocked as I NEVER hear negative reviews so wanted to warn some that there is bad to it for some people

I mean I can drink coffee, pop, even Alcohol if I was a drinker and not have these side effects its horrible esp when I have 6 kids running around and all I can keep thinking is please dont throw up! Lesson learned i will NOT drink green tea again!

Thanks for the eye opener, i never heard of anyone getting sick from it before. I myself am an avid green (and all other forms) tea drinker and have never had issues.

Exactly I never heard of anything negative either and finally decided to google it because it just was weird it was like that Morning sickness pregnancy pukey stage and TRUST me I am not pregnant its just horrible feeling - and I found out I am not the only one who feels like this. I can drink almost anything with no effects. Again I know alot of people have nothing wrong when they drink it but it was just as a precaution that if something dont feel right maybe it is the tea :-)
  • Yes! Every time I have had it in the morning it always makes my stomach hurt and makes me feel sick. I threw up once too. :( I'm going to see if drinking it after breakfast helps!

You may have steeped it too long.

I avoid green tea after it not agreeing with me or learning the affects of it associated with a thyroid disease. Informative article on Green Tea Health Risks & the autoimmune system enclosed. Green tea is not for everyone. Feel better,

This! That's so crazy. Glad you figured it out though and can avoid it for now on.
  • I have to wait until after I've eaten something. Also, I cannot make it a strong one.

Any kind of tea makes me sick if I haven't eaten anything in a while.
  • iced green tea is okay. HOT green tea doesn't agree with my system and I throw up.

I guzzle AriZona Green Tea with Ginseng and Honey like I'm an alcoholic. Back in 2010 I used to drink a quart a day. REALLY addicting. I've tried other green teas, but I don't like them quite as much. Never got sick though.

It is well known that many people have sensitivity to green tea (and green tea extract), and it is recommended that you don't drink it (or take anything with the extract in it) on an empty stomach.

I had a multivitamin that had green tea extract in it, which I'd always take on an empty stomach before I left the house in the morning and then eat breakfast when I got to work. I would get nauseated every. single. day. Then I started bringing my vitamins with me to work and taking them after I ate my breakfast. Problem solved.

As far as the tea goes - it is also important to not over-steep green tea, and it will become extremely bitter (which can also cause nausea). Green tea should only be steeped for 2-3 minutes tops, and the water should not be boiling hot.
  • Do you drink any water before you drink it? One morning I woke up and instead of drinking water I drank warm green tea and had so much anxiety. When you have an empty stomach itll do the same thing because it absorbs right into you . Try eating and drinking breakfast before drinking it , maybe make it lighter too .
