Just thought I would share my story of recovery for anyone wondering the other benefits of diet and exercise. In June 2009, I decided I needed to lose weight and get fit. I didn't know the journey I took would get me here. I lost some weight, started running, completed a marathon, kept running. I added in P90X and Insanity, which really pushed my fitness level to a new high. I worked out hard and pushed myself to new limits. All the while, battling other health problems that were beyond my control. Two weeks ago, I had surgery, a hysterectomy. Sounds major, I was instructed I would be in the hospital 1-2 nights, would be off work for 3 full week, and wouldn't be exercising for 6 weeks.

FIrst, my dr told me and my nurses that this was the "best" surgery he'd done i 15 years. It was picture perfect and I was a "rock star". I was released from the hospital in less than 24 hours. The only reason he kept me overnight was he got called out of town on a family emergency and couldn't check in on me to release me. I had told him before surgery, I would only be there one night :)

Secondly, I took no pain meds besides 2 days of advil. I didn't need it. Apparently it's not normal to be up and walking within 1 hour of surgery.

Third, he released me to walk (not run yet), yoga, or whatever exercise I felt I could do. I'm back doing Yoga and Kenpo. I feel super.

Most of all, I was back at work within 3 days. I work an office job, but it's stressful.

I would have never gotten to this point so fast had I not been in exceptional shape to begin with. There are such huge benefits to being fit and healthy.

That's amazing! I wish I'd been in better shape for my hysterectomy, but the problems I was having made exercise very painful. It's so much better now. I'm glad the surgery went so well for you! Being in shape has so many benefits.
