Losing 3 LB per week

I keep heating that it's unhealthy. However, I'm keeping my net cals above 1200 daily and exercise moderately and try to make good food choices.. Should I up the calories to lose 2 a week? I keep hearing that over 2 is bad?

Umm I don't think it's bad to lose 3lbs a week, I think it has been shown that if you lose weight quickly it is more likely to come back. I have been losing about 4lbs a week, but I am eating plenty 1200-1500 calories a day and exercising about 5 times a week. I am determined to keep it off regardless!0

I think it depends on how much you need to lose and I have always heard that it is easier to keep it off if you lost 1-2 pounds a week. I wish I was losing 3 pounds a week! Keep up the good work!0 -
depends on your starting weight too... the more weight you have to lose over all the more you will lose in a week... it should taper off tho.0

My Curves instructor is trained in nutrition and has advised me that losing 1-2 is best. The reasoning behind this is because losing more places your body in starvation mode and puts you at a higher risk for gaining back the weight by binge eating. Hope this helps. It was definitely a great help for me!0

If you have a lot of weight to lose, that's okay... but yeah, make sure you're eating your exercise calories back (at least some of them) so that you don't run out of steam and slow down your weight loss. As you get closer to your goal, you can readjust to a 1 lb per week loss.0

My doctor told me that I could healthily lose up to 10 lbs a week. Not that I ever do, of course! ;-) But his opinion is that when you're obese, the health risks of obesity are greater than any mild health risks that might be associated with rapid weight loss. Of course, if you're getting close to your goal weight you can probably ease up a little.0

What is you goal set at here - is it set to 2 lbs and you are just losing 3? For a while it won't hurt to have your calorie goal set to 2 lbs and as long as you are eating near your calorie goal and eating your exercise calories back you should be OK even if you are actually losing more but you may plateau. If you set your calorie goal to 3 lbs I would reset for at least a 2 lbs loss and eat at least some of your exercise calories back.0
