Day after exercise cravings

On my exercise days where I really push myself and earn 500 - 900 calories I just don't feel hungry at all.
Mondays, Tuesday and Thursdays I cycle 12 miles and on the weekends I jog and on these days I am fine with food

However on Wednesdays and Fridays - my days off. I am CONSTANTLY hungry!
I'm really struggling to deal with it now and I've ended up snacking all through the day despite me trying to plan the day carefully.
I drink lots of water throughout the day and have around 6 cups of green tea, but nothing seems to help. I just can't stop thinking about food

Does anyone else have a similar problem and does anyone have any tips?

I have the same issue. I just struggle on and try to at least make all of the food that i am compelled to eat nutritious.
  • Sooooo with you. Believe it or not I actually gained 5 pounds in the 6 months I trained for my marathon. Huge appetite issues. Hopefully someone has some words of wisdom.
  • Hi! I am not sure what the deal is with those, what I call, rest-day-cravings, but they are there from the time I wake up until the time I go to sleep. Sometimes I fight them, but most often times I eat. Sometimes I just take a brisk 4.0 walk and that helps them to subside.

That's a good point actually, on my exercise days I do usually eat back most of my calories, but sometimes I am just not hungry enough to eat after exercise

I really try to eat back a lot of my exercise calories but sometimes I just can't. Like yesterday, I burned 800 cals on a bike ride which put me over 2200 calories to eat for the day. I tried to eat everything nutritious that I could and I even have a Gu or Clif Bar on those days during my workout, but I just can't eat that many calories unless I eat crap, which to me defeats the point of working out. My solution to the day after cravings has been to exercise a little bit, even on rest days, so that I am free to eat more. Instead of my usual hard workouts, I will go on a walk or do Zumba on the PS3 (at a lower intensity level), then I burn the extra calories so I can eat and satisfy my cravings.

Yesterday I had a BIG exercise day but didn't even make it to 1200 calories. Got scolded by MFP and everything. It's a rare occurrence for me to be that low but sometimes happens that I just don't feel like eating. Because I had such a big exercise day yesterday I knew that today would be a "hungry" day and so far it's holding true. When we work our bodies hard the next day we tend to be ravenous because the body is repairing itself and needs the building blocks to do so. Today I will eat more and it will be plenty of protein so my body has what it needs to work with. One thing I've found that helps mitigate this a little bit is to have a good protein before bed (casein shake, whey if it's all I have or even just a little chunk of chicken.) Gives my body some protein to work with while I'm sleeping.
