Hey all. Just want to introduce myself. New to this but not new to trying to lose weight. I am about to hit 40 this year and have two VERy active boys aged 4-2. I recently lost my father and ate my way through my emotions so now here I stand 5 feet tall 162 pounds and out of shape to keep up with my boys. I need help!!! So any tips and info would be greatly appreciated. So far this is a great site!

One of the best things I can say is try and plan your week of meals it makes it easier to have a plan for the week to tackle it and not be tempted to run to the store and go hmm what should I have for dinner. If you know what your options are for the week then it will be easier for you to cook. Another tip I have is make sure to eat as many fresh veggies as you can particularly the ones that are in season. Prepackaged foods might be easier but they are loaded with secret things that will throw your sodium particularly for a lopp. The other thing is always carry water with you. Water is your friend make sure to get plenty.
  • start to keep a recipe book. I have written down so many recipes from people sharing on here. I follow advice from my coaches too and fitness trainers. they always give me tips and i get them constantly. research a lot... dont drink a lot of fluids while you eat b/c your body needs to digest the food first and if you are drinking it will digest the fluid first and the food will just be sitting there waiting. drink tons of water b/c if you start to feel thirsty you are already dehydrated and you are supposed to constantly be hydrated in order to keep your metabolism up when you are building it from working out. if you are working out a ton make sure you eat lots of protein, 1-1.2 g of protein per pound of body weight is the rule. eat 5-6 meals a day. try a meal replacement shake if you can find one you like b/c w/ the right one it will keep you satiated and give you all the vitamins & nutrients your body needs. I have lots of things i could send you but this post would be a mile long,

You are starting in the right place.
Take it one day at a time. Little changes over time add up to big results. There are no quick fixes or there would be no one with weight issues.
I lost my mom a year ago in June - so I feel for you, it's a difficult thing.
Just keep at it and you will lose the weight you want. When you eat better and exercise the weight has no choice but to come off. It's that simple, but takes sticking to it over the long haul.
    All the best to you,
    Paige

Welcome to MFP! You will love it here as everyone is pretty awesome about supporting each other and providing motivation when you need it most. If you want you are more than welcome to add me as a friend. :)

Try and do something every day. I try and workout at least 6 days a week but not to hard, I really enjoy a 2 mile walk around my local schools track and it only takes about 30 mins of your day. Also do schedule a rest day so your body doesn't feel like you are over doing it.

Also don't skip breakfast! If anything eat big for breakfast and lunch and a small dinner, also eat at least two snacks as this helps keep you from going through a starving stage and then you eat more than planned. This has helped me a lot.

Drink your water!!! This is very important I strive for 12 to 14 glasses of water a day but 4-5 bottles is easy to keep track of and that's 8-10 glasses.

Most importantly have fun! If it feels like a diet then you might now make it. I look at it as a life change and my whole family is changing, more veggies, less junk and getting out and doing something.

    :)
