Bodybugg or ????

With as much as I'm loving MFP, I'm wondering just how accurate the "calories burned" report is. Like when I go walk for 10 min. at a moderate pace, am I really burning 49 calories? Maybe my body is burning more, or less. I was looking at the Bodybugg but the idea of having to pay for the monthly subscription after the first 6 months doesn't sit well with me right now. So I'm wondering if any one uses it and is it REALLY worth it? Or, have people tried something else to accurately record what THEIR body is really burning? I wish there was a "free 30 day trial" of it so I could figure out how many calories I'm really burning with certain activities so I at least had a good idea. Thoughts???

Just get a heart rate monitor. They work wonders.

Get a HRM (heart rate monitor) I use the Polar FT4 and it has the calories burned feature. I use those figures from the HRM and plug them in here on MFP for my workouts. Its accurate when you use a HRM since your calulations are from you and about you. Give it a try.

I have a bodybugg and it works wonders. I have found out that I burn a lot less calories than my HRM was telling me. Go for it.

But be known, the first couple of days wearing it is not comfortable
  • I've been wondering the same thing. I usually try to find something on the internet to give me some kind of idea of how many calories I might be burning with a certain exercise. I know that isn't accurate either because everyone is different, with their height, weight, etc... I've been looking at the Polar FT4 heart monitor online, but not sure yet. Hopefully someone will have an answer.

I have a bodybugg that I used for the first 6 months. It does what it says it does. But I don't use it because I have to pay for the subscription. So I too would recommend a Heart Rate Monitor. If you are already cringing at the thought of paying to use it, you will be like me and spend too much money getting it and then it sitting in a drawer.

    Good luck.

I am an avid wearer and supporter of the Bodybugg! I've had mine for over a year now and love love love it!
For the most part it is pretty accurate - I use MFP for tracking my calories and then at the end of the night I plug in my bugg and see how many cals I burned total, subtract my cals ate here and I get my deficit! If I don't wear my bugg I feel naked :o)

I don't want to pay for the bodybugg, either. But I have a watch that i got at Target, I think. It tracks calories, steps, mileage, etc. Doesn't do the heart rate monitor, but the rest is really accurate. I've heard the hrm is a great feature, so might have to upgrade my watch! :)

Thanks for all the quick responses. I'm thinking maybe for now anyway, getting a hrm would be my best bet. I'm just not convinced at the calories burned with exercise on here. I'd love to have some much more accurate. Maybe the bodybugg will be an investment to help KEEP me in check once I'm a little closer....and once my finances have settled in a bit.
