My HRM thinks I'm dead :(

I am so frustrated. I have bought and returned 2 different HRM this week for the same reason -- and 2 different brands.
For some reason, the chest thing just will not pickup my heart rate. The sensor is working, the heart blinks and it's on..but my heart rate just sits at 30 and will not move. I have wet the sensors, I've tried dish soap on the sensors, I've tried nothing but sweat....it just will not track my heart.
I am wearing the strap under my bra just sort of tucked there under the bottom strap.
What the heck am I doing wrong? Time and Polar both think I'm dead/ //cry

This may or may not help, but have you tried...
a) wearing the transmitter BELOW your bra, like, not stuck under your bra strap
b) exercising indoors and outdoors
For whatever reason, my HRM won't take accurate measurement if I'm exercising outdoors.0 -
I have moved it around a bit.... so far I only tested in the house and during zumba at the gym. *not outdoors*
Thanks for the suggestions tho! This may or may not help, but have you tried...

That is really strange. I would call the company or go online and read some reviews on them.
Maybe a trip to the Drs to make sure it is not a medical problem.0 -
I haven't tried it ABOVE my boobs but I will! I even tried putting the sensors in back...hmm iv had this problem before.. just means ur heart rate is struggling to make it throo ur skin.

Do you use anything like a self tanner? I had a problem when I decided (not one of my better ideas) to try a self tanner. I put it on at night and then the next day my hrm started going crazy. I would be working out and all of a sudden my heart rate would go to 00 or to over 200. I stopped using the self tanner and now that it is finally off my skin I have noticed my hrm is working fine.0

I wear mine just below my bra line. I noticed yesterday when I was riding a stationary bike that it kept losing by hr, I think it's because it was right under my bra because of how I was sitting. Also, I've heard that underwire in a bra can interfere? Not sure.. Hopefully you can find something that works for you!!0

Perhaps you should try a model that reads your pulse from your wrist or upper arm. I have had trouble with my polar chest strap if i tuck it under my sports bra strap or if the elastic band is too loose.0

Thank you for all the comments! I returned both the polar and the timex... I think they were just too big or something so it wouldn't fit snug enough no matter where I put it.
I decided as a last ditch effort to try one more brand.. (much cheaper!) Sportline duo... took it home, put on the chest strap and works flawless! Exactly the numbers I was expecting as far as heart rate.... tomorrow morning will be the real test. Can't wait to see what it think I burn during Zumba!
This one is especially made for women, doesn't need wet sensors and works with and without the chest strap which is nice. I hope it keeps working!
PS I think this is the first time in my life I actually like the cheapest version of anything...usually it goes higher and higher! LOL0 -
I have no solutions for you at all MsMaryMac...but I just want to say...GREAT JOB losing all that weight! You look terrific (especially for a girl with no heartbeat--ha, ha!). Seriously, you should be so proud!!0

The contacts need to be moist. Sometimes movement can break contact. When you first start you are too dry. Or if it's cold and you aren't sweating. You can spit on it to get it kick started (yuck) or use electrode gel. Or like me you can use the awesome multipurpose KY Jelly! Try it out. That may solve your problem.0
