IPL Laser for skin rejuvenation? (getting rid of brown spots, veins, for the face) what is your opinion?

I tried IPL for facial brown spots and broken capilaries in around 2006 (maybe the technology is better now?). I had a horrible experience and would not recommend this to anyone.

After five very painful treatments and a lot of $$ doled out there was absolutely no difference in the brown spots (which the doctor told me AFTER I paid for and recieved the treatments that they were caused by Melasma, which has no known cause or cure and there was nothing they could do for me). It didn't even work for some broken capilaries on the side of my nose they tried to zap.

And it was PAINFUL. I have a very high pain tolerance, but this was almost unbearable. Like a thousand rubber bands being snapped against your face.... and they don't just do the spots you want worked on, they have to cover the whole face.

I was also told that some of their patients did a facial scrub before treatments to get better results, so I did that one time.... and I walked out with a face full of deep, dark purple bruising.. looked like I was in car accident... took weeks to heal.

Luckily, I have had no lasting ill effects from the treatments and my Melasma has improved on its own over time.

I would say.... save your money.

BTW - Isn't Fraxel Laser the newer technology? I haven't researched it, so I don't know if it is better or not.

Wow, that is terrible!! I went to a spa that specializes in facial stuff (Botox, juvaderm, restalyn, etc) the other day. The employees there had the most amazing skin I've ever seen! They all had done this IPL thing. They told me that one treatment would take care of my issues. But now I'm a little scad. Thanks a lot!

I have had fraxel and it made no difference at all to freckles. I paid a fortune and it hurt like hell.

I hope it works out for you! You should ask them for other patients with similar issues that you are trying to address that you can contact as references to see what their experience was. If they don't want to give you references, red flag!

BTW - My cynical self thinks they only hire employees at those places who already have great skin. They did not get that way from IPL or other treatments they sell. Just a thought......

IPL caused my melasma to spread all over my face like a mask, and I am now just getting it under control with Obagi. What I learned was that any laser treatments can cause hyper pigmentation if you are prone to this then it is not for you.
