I keep getting different advice on weather or not to eat before exercising. Does anyone know if it is better to exercise on an empty stomach?

I need something so i eat breakfast and then workout 30 minutes later. If it is any other time during the day i wont need to eat anything.0

I have been wondering the exact same thing, and to also add another question - is it better to workout as soon as you get up or in the afternoon? I have heard conflicting stories, any clarification would be great.0

I have either 1/2c oatmeal. Or 1/2 of a large banana with peanut butter. Or a slice of toast with peanut butter. You need something light for energy. Wait 20-30 then workout and eat after.0

It's proven working out first thing in the morning makes your body more productive with burning cals thru the day. Working out later isn't bad it's just better early in the day.0 -
I eat a high-protein meal (usually 3 eggs and low-fat yogurt with some water), wait about 30-50 minutes, exercise, and drink a protein shake right after.0

Whatever works for you. Personally, I don't like to eat too much before I workout. In the mornings, I run before I eat anything and I don't eat anything 2.5 hours before an evening run. (This is just me, because no matter how light my dinner, I always feel stuffed for hours after.) But as far as snacks or a light meal, I'd say wait at least half an hour before working out. Also, I like working out in the morning because it gives you more energy than any cup of coffee, but I don't mind it in the afternoon or evening, either. In fact, I usually run in the morning, do a workout DVD in the afternoon, and then go for another run or a walk in the evening. Lol0

I always try to have a very light snack before I exercise. Usually a banana about a half hour before I work out does the trick.0

Personally I feel sick if I eat before I work out... no fun feeling food and water sloshing around while you are working out... but I know a lot of people that are fine with it, try both, see what works for you.0

My fitness instructor says you should eat within 2 hrs of significant exercise. So not empty stomach, but not full either. I suppose if it was first thing in the morning then your stomach would be empty ......0

I usually make a smoothy for breakfast and then work out.
Something light. Once I ate dinner and tried to work out
on my recumbent bike and felt awful. So I don't that in
the evening anymore.0 -
Also you should want to eat within an hour of waking. Otherwise your metabolism is crap...0
