I'm a nerd. I'm the only girl I know who likes video games. And not girly games, I like MMO's and violent games. Also love Doctor Who, Star Trek, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Dragon Ball Z and Sci-Fi in general. I AM NOT ASHAMED!0
-
Lots of Doctor Who fans... that's fantastic. I'm a science nerd (I have a definitive love of biochemistry). I play Magic, WOW, and am an ex EQ player. I clearly like Godzilla movies, and I collect godzilla figures. They adorn my desk and bookshelf.0

Big time Comicbook nerd over here. I have been reading comics since I was 6 years old (and we're not talking that senseless Archie/Betty & Veronica Crap), and have an impressively large comic book collection primarily comprised of Uncanny X-Men, Wolverine, Extreme X-Men, X-Force, The Authority, and the Avengers. I have pretty much anything that ever featured Wolverine in it. I've also got a ridiculous amount of Lithographs, Comic Con Sketches, Busts, T-shirts, etc, and I am the former Webmaster of a Wolverine website (wrathoftherunt.com). Basically, huge, HUGE nerd.
In additional to that obsession, I'm a big Doctor Who, Sherlock, TMNT and Thundercats fan, I've still got my toy Sailor Moon Crescent Moon wand and S Locket, and I'm a pretty active MMORPG gamer. Current games of choice are: City of Heroes/Villians, CD Universe Online, Left4Dead 2, Global Agenda, and Red Dead Redemption
I'm also a bit of a Bradoway Musicals nerd, but I'm not sure if that falls in the same category0 -
Ok so I thought you guys might LOL at this.... Just last night right before logging out from reading this post on my iPhone my husband woke up in the middle of a dream. Normally he just goes back to sleep but he sits up and looks at me and goes, "Hey I need to go into the dungeon!" All I could do was laugh my butt off because apparently he's dreaming about some MMO or D&D.
Oh, and to be even more nerdy... I have a Darth Vader spatula and a limited edition Darth Vader Light Saber that was like $200. I used to be a HUGE WoW Fanatic as well. I have 8 or so WoW shirts, spent over thousands of dollars on WOW crap like race changes, server changes, name changes, and I have both the store mounts and the pets. LOL! Omg so awesome I quit playing because its taking up too much of my time and isn't in tune with my new active life style. Plus the lag from Firelands drove me up the wall and my wireless mouse cuts out for some reason... So I figured extra $30 a month isn't bad. I will always have good memories atleast.

Pretty sure i have been a nerd since 1997. Thanks daddy for my new computer and internet and setting me up an MMO account at age 9 LOL0

LOL!!!!! DUDE! I totally can relate. My freaking dad bought Everquest back in 2001 (this is when KUNARK was current!!) and thought my like 8 year old sister would play it. NOPE. I ended up getting the game and somehow he was totally cool with me dropping out of sports and staying up all night to play a game that was $10 a month at the time. I was level 5 for like 3-4 months because I just could not comprehend the game and time consumption haha. I was around 11-12 when I got into that. 10+ years later and I've just said my final good bye to World of Warcraft. I think my dad thought it would be ok cuz he played D&D as a kid and was thinking it was the same thing! =P0 -
Woooow...I am not alone!!!!0

I spent at least one term as Mayor of Nerdsville. It bothered me a bit then, but not now. I suppose that, technically, I'm still a nerd, but seem to have gone beyond the need to label things. Now I'm just me. If you decide that makes me a nerd, that's on you, not me!0
-
Does anyone think there is a difference between a nerd and a geek? My husband thinks so and thinks one of them is an insult but I forget which one haha.0
-
By nerd, you mean super awesome and cool...then "yes" I am a full fledged, card carrying nerd :drinker:0
-
Ah...I hae found my 'base'. Yay! I played Magic and D&D during middle school...watched TMNT and X-Men after school. I'm a child of the 90's. I live and breathe Syfy network....love Sanctuary, Stargate (all series), Battlestar...ect. I love watching BBT...I relate way too well to Sheldon, lol.0

Most ads are scripted to crawl the text of a page to determine what kinds of ads are appropriate for a given page or subject. It probably saw the many instances of the word WOW, Warcraft, Nerd and other things and pulled up that ad. This is the nature of Google ads0 -

I grew up playing the original Legend of Zelda
Had and watched gobs and gobs of Transformers and GI Joes (and recently bought a few of the new transformers)
Played World of Warcraft, until recently (No longer fits into my healthy lifestyle choices)
I am an 80s and 90s movie buff
Love Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune
I have watched every episode of Firefly, The 4400, X Files, etc...
I see the movie Robocop not as a fun action movie but as a great film pointing at the ironies of the 1980s
And most recently added all of the available episodes of all the iterations of Star Trek to my Netflix Queue
Yep, I'm not only a Nerd Club member. I may be the next president...0 -
I'm getting old school here:
Watched the original Battlestar Gallactica when it was on the air in the 70s. My best friend and I used to say "Fraq" all of the time.
I spent most of my life reading books. My mom used to yell at me to go outside and play. SciFi and Fantasy are my material of choice, of course. Heinlein, Asimov, Piers Anthony, David Eddings, Terry Goodkind, Robert Jordan... I could go on and on.
I've programmed in Basic, Basica, FORTRAN, PASCAL and COBOL. I'm now learning Java. I played Zork when it first came out.
80's movies are still the best. If you've never seen "Better Off Dead" or "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension", find them and watch them. You won't be disappointed!
I spent a good chunk of my 20s and early 30s playing text MUDs. I never got into the graphical online games. By then, I'd realized you can waste your life online. LOL
Spent 10 years working for AOL in software QA.
To get even more nerdy, here's a Venn Diagram I found awhile back that explains the differences between being a nerd, dork, geek or dweeb. It's better to be a "geek." LOL

I had similar issues with WoW. I realized it is hard to get up at 4:45am to run if you're still trying to get a raid together at 11pm the night before. And with 2 kids and 2 jobs somethingn had to give. I never did get to see Firelands though. I saw Patch 4.1 for about 2 weeks and then said to Hell with it.0 -
I definitely consider myself a nerd I do many nerd-type activities and embarrass some of my more posh friends with my nerdiness. :P
I used to be HUGE into WoW back when 40 man raids were the bee's knees Now I mostly stick to quirky shooters on Xbox360 but I still have a soft spot for WC3 (on which I met my husband of three years!)
I also love anime and I've recently gotten into science fiction novels, having been strictly fantasy driven, and I'm finishing up the first novel in the Dune series0 -

Yeah it really puts a damper on your night for planning things especially if they run like 3+ nights a week. I thought it was really scary when I was raiding 6 days a week but thankfully never did that more then two weeks at a time. It just grinds on you to the point where you can't do it anymore. I commend you on picking the better choice which is going outside!
So, I just had a flashback to my childhood. I was a nerd then too. I was a FANATIC for the Power Rangers and I had the pink power rangers gloves I wore everywhere. I even roleplayed Power Rangers at recess during grade school. >.> That plus I had the evil emperor Palpatine as a water bottle head and I took that stupid thing everywhere lol. I was such a dorky kid LOL. I this topic.0 -
Ok, I have you beat in the nerd department I think. I am a science major, have a huge collection of Pokemon and Yu Gi Oh for my kids, love to read sci-fi, love Thundercats, He-Man, any Miyazaiki films, still listen to DEVO, Beck, and check out the Mathematicians, and the nerdiest thing that I have done in the past month or two........we were watching Star Trek and playing Magic The Gathering! We also attend MTG tournaments and get together with our friends every two weeks to play. WOW, I just realized how nerdy that all sounds when I put it together!
Wait...when did listening to Beck get nerdy? I remember in elementary/middle school the "preps" liked him. As far as "still" listening to him...well, he *is* a current artist. (And he's actually one of my favorites. )0 -
Hello fellow nerds I feel happily at home in this thread.
My nerd qualifications:
Lasting love of science fiction brought into being by my Dad playing the 'Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy' in the car on a family trip to the South of France when I was about 9ish or so. When we got back home I raided his entire sci-fi collection (Asimov, Heinlein, Clark etc).
A love of computers & techo-geekery starting with the lovely ZX Spectrum... ahhh, atic atac. Again, I'm going to blame my Dad here as he bought it, then my sister & I realised it did games! Poor Dad!!
I can see from here my board game collection including the original talisman, complete with all the cards that were in White Dwarf, German versions of Settlers because I couldn't wait for the English ones (many hours spent with a German-English dictionary trying to translate things!). Ooooh, and the Dr Who game - I remember spending most of one Christmas afternoon punching all the little tokens out of the paper.
I will also own up to playing D&D and other assorted RPGs in my time. Plus obviously MMO's (most recently fallen earth) & cRPGs - waiting for Skyrim to come out!!
Dr Who - well, it has to be Tom Baker. Cute as the more recent ones are, there's no-one quite like Tom
I'm also a massive jewellery making nerd - love it to pieces... although part of me thinks this might just be munchkin-ism carrying over from gaming
Any fellow nerds that want another nerd friend - feel free to add me0 -
My nerd-dom started with the bestest Christmas presents ever: the Magnavox Odyssey followed by the 2600. It was all downhill from there.
For your geek enjoyment, how about an 8-bit version of the Game of Thrones theme:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxc0EQiwngE
Notice how the YouTube uploader gets - geek points for failing to know the difference between 8 bit and 16 bit.0 -
