Whoop whoop!!!! Think my time was about 28:42, but I am so pleased I got round and didn't walk or stop once

LOL I am definitely proof that the Couch to 5k programme works, as I only started running on 23rd May!

    Heck yeah!!!

Congrats on that, and 28:42 is a respectable time! I can't hit a 10:00 mile yet. My time is right around 36:00 for a 5k
  • Thats great!!

Iv been a casual jogger for around a year now but recently started making it a routine, daily! but, even still i can only do 2 miles and thats really really pushing myself!

Im glad i've read this, its proof that eventually i can get there!

Keep it up and well done :-)

Congratulations!! Awesome time. My daughter completed her first 5K (she's 15) in May and I know what a sense of accomplishment it was for her to work towards the goal and achieve it. I know with her, she has done several more so I think you may find yourself doing another soon.

I don't know where you're based but in the UK there is a thing called parkrun which is a 5k run every Saturday morning in parks across the UK.

It's timed and the one I go to has abilities ranging from walking round in 50mins to fast 17 min runners. It's a good friendly atmosphere and as I say completely free. You just have to register first and take your barcode along.

They're even starting them in Oz & Denmark http://www.parkrun.org.uk/

Cool, I'll have a look at that to see if there's anything near me

Thanks for the replies peeps, I love the support on these boards, it's brilliant!

If I can run a 5k then anyone can and it's an amazing feeling when everyone who's already finished is urging you to keep going. and clapping and cheering as you come towards the finish line  The last 1km was the hardest and I did struggle a bit but managed to keep going.

I am already planning to go along to the next club race on 10th August!

The C25K programme 100% works, I can't recommend it enough for anyone who wants to have a go.

Have had a look at this and the nearest ones to me are over an hour's drive away, so a bit of a no-go unfortunately!

Awesome, I am doing my first 5k in little over a month, and last night I ran my first 5k distance! I went a little over actually at 3.16mi in 40 minutes! My goal for my race is to do a 5k in 36min!

Thinking of starting the c25k run (i found the app on my phone) Monday in they gym...kinda worried bout getting shin splints because that is common for me so that is the only thing holding me back.

I suffered from shin splints when I used to walk too fast, but oddly enough I haven't had any problems with them when running. Quite surprised, as I thought I would. The good think about the C25K is that it builds you up slowly from 60secs running at the start through to 30 minutes on week 9. If you have any problems there's no reason why you can't repeat a week, or maybe only run twice a week?

Haha I'm worried now in case I read the clock wrong as I came over the finish line and it said 38:42!!!! With any luck they'll post up the results on the club website so I can check at some point. Still whatever the time I'm well chuffed that I got round and didn't stop or walk at any point!

LOL just found out I fibbed about my time - it was actually 28:46. Hahaha the clock must have been blurred through the extreme exhaustion of trotting round the course!!!
