Ditto.
Would you be surprised to know that I was president of (STEP- Students Together for Environmental Protection) and a vegetarian against farm raised food? I think that there is a balance that needs to be met with todays political and econonical and environmental ways. Yes...I recycle, I prefer to be outdoors and enjoy nature, I like to do things the natural way. Does that mean that I am going to go 'green'....hell no! There are so many things to think about. Odd as it is...I am a right wing conservative with libertarian tenancies that can boarder on being anarachist and an envirnomental nut job. My three stances are strange when combined but they define who I am. Lol. Govenernment needs to be downsized and left the the people. I'd leave The States if I have to. Political freedom is becoming harder to find no matter where you live.0 -
I haven't seen or heard anything on these, but this thread reminded me of something I thought was well ... you decide.
My former MIL was insisting that everyone in the family go to energy efficient light bulbs. She was going on and on about it. I refused (she and I never did see eye to eye on most things, why start here?)
We are at her house one afternoon/evening for a BBQ and I went into the garage to get more bottled water from their outside refrigerator (garage doors were closed to keep the house cool - she has AC but refuses to turn it on to save electricity ... anyway ...)
I open the door from the house to the garage and notice the garage light has been left on. I get the waters, turn off the light and go back to the BBQ.
About 3 hours later, she comes outside from having gone to the garage to dispose of some recycling and jumped on me for turning the light off. I"m thinking "WTH?".
Seems that b/c she changed to those 'energy efficient light bulbs', which take quite some time to come to full brightness, rather than turning the light off when she is done in the garage, she just leaves it on all day, until she goes to bed, so if she goes in there and needs light, she will have it.
HUH? So you are hounding me to use these new energy efficient bulbs that you use ... and then you leave yours on for nearly 15 hours a day non-stop ... and are upset that I am using my old light bulbs, which brighten my garage/rooms immediately, and are on for only the length of time that I am in said area. In the garage, to grab bottled water, I think that might have topped 30 seconds.
This was the first thing I thought of when I read the topic of this post, so thought I would share it and let someone have a giggle, or lighten the issue up a little at the very least Have a great day all!0 -
Wow! Lots of discussion on this! We've had some good energy efficient bulbs and some bad. Some do not last as long as the regular bulbs and I worry about how to properly dispose of them.
This issue of triggering a seizure in some people is a real problem. You might be able to use something different in your home but going out to other places could still be an issue.0 -
what I want to know is how they expect people to be able to pay for enough to put in every light bulb socket in their home. I am on an extremely limited income. I can't afford to pay 4 bucks apiece for light bulbs. I have a couple of them that I got for free from a weatherizing seminar I went to. it came with a thermostat for my house and 100 dollars towards heating bills. I have one of the most energy efficient houses I can have.. I live in a habitat for humanity house. everything in it has the energy star seal of approval, including the furnace. I can get 4 regular light bulbs for 79 cents. they last a long time in our house because we only turn the lights on when it gets dark out. the result is low energy bills and money left for other important things, like my medicines I have to take.0

I have found I do not much like the taste of the new energy efficant light bulbs, while they are alot more crunchy than the old bulbs they dont have the same taste or creamy texture.0

I don't have a problem with the new fangled light bulbs I just don't want to be forced to use them. If I want to spend more on energy, that should be my choice. I spend more on electricity in the winter because I refuse to sit around in my apartment wearing a coat to keep warm. Maybe I'll stock up on candles and kerosene lamps while I'm stocking up on the old fashioned light bulbs. For when I run out of the light bulbs. :bigsmile:0

 you crack me up red... that is a good idea though... we used kerosene lamps and candles all the time when I was a kid!0

Oh shoot! I just got back from the store and forgot to buy light bulbs!:happy:0

what has this got to do with weightloss? Energy efficient light bulbs will last longer and save you money, i don't see the problem in that :-) embrace the money saving ideas, it may not be a huge amount of energy on a small scale but if everyone does it, it makes a big difference and we need to save on our fastly reducing resources!
I have all energy saving lighbulbs and they are just as good and save me money :-)
also what has it got to do with religion? Are you not all talking about energy efficient bulbs?
Free market all the way, just look how good it did with mortgages and oil prices .... Not.0 -
thanks lorina, but I never go to home improvement stores unless I absolutely have to. when I go grocery shopping I have my list and coupons and the prices all written out to the penny and cannot afford to deviate from it. I have 80 dollars a week to work with, and that has to cover food, laundry detergent and anything you would buy when you go grocery shopping. I go in, get what is on my list and then leave so I can't get anything extra.0
