I love my friends. I really do. But they are not what i would call "healthy people" On averagethey go out for a beer (or a few) 5 nights a week. Thats awesome i guess that people like to see my face, but i can't drink every night and then run the next morning. I tried. Lord i tried. One beer on a special occasion, maybe. But drinking and then running is beyond awful. Plus where there is drinking, there is usually junk food (hello, tamale guy. and belly jiggle.) I hate saying no, because then people get offended. And if i go and just drink water or club soda, they think i am being a brat (or worse, that im preggo!)

I am almost 30! is there really nothing else for people to do these days? When are all my friends gonna get married and knocked up so that they can't drink either! BRAWWWWWR!

I totally understand. I had to remove myself from the social scene for about four months to lose the bulk of my weight. Then I volunteered to be the designated driver once I had a little better attitude about it (I was very resentful at first). Now, I allow myself one night a week drinking, or a certain amount of calories I split up between Friday and Saturday. Its almost impossible to stay fit if you drink tons....plus you never feel like working out the next day. Definitely a hard balance.

The first thing I did with my weight loss journey was cut away the weight of some of my friendships. Every activity was based around eating. After I invited them to activities where we ate before hand, unfortunately they stopped coming around. Our relationship was about food and not each other. It was hard but I'm 180lbs thinner and my friendships I have now are healthier. Its hard to do but the old saying Misery loves company really applied to us. Good Luck!
  • Omg, I totally relate. My friends are married and have kids and guess what? They still have house parties (which are beyond awesome) and yes, there is alcohol of every type and chicken wings, meatballs, it's insane! It used to be a weekly thing and somehow, they started diminishing (thank God) because the beer and alcohol was doing me no justice. It's really hard to diet and socialize with people who are not concerned about eating healthy. They would always tell me, "C'mon you never drink with us," (at every party, lol) and I would feel guilty and drink. Honestly, I'm a social drinker but I don't enjoy consuming empty calories I'd much rather waste my calories on food lol

My friends always go to the bar and I go with them. I'll drink tea or diet coke not beer. You can be their DD or When they ask just tell them I don't want to drink. It's not like they can force you. I've had friends buy me a beer and let it sit there for an hour after awhile they'll get the picture hey he/she doesnt want to drink but they'll still hang out so it's cool.Plus i end up saving a ton of $$$ by not drinking at a bar.

Thats a good point. I am saving a ton of money...but then i blow it all on cute running skirts, haha. Hopefully all this DD'ing earns me some bonus points in their eyes :)
