Low Carb?

I am wanting to do a couple weeks of a lower carb diet (NOT no-carb!) to see if I can push myself into the 140s since I have been stuck in the low 150s for a while now. Those of you that do low carb - do you just try to eat less than X amount of carbs per day? Or do you not count carbs and instead just restrict as many breads, pastas, high-glycemic fruits, etc. as possible? An insight on this would be great

A good lower type carb plan is the Belly Fat Cure by Jorge Cruise.
It keeps your carbs to no more than 120gm a day and only 15gm of sugar per day.
I think if you google it, you can find most of the plan info online. I try to follow this and it really helps me feel good and get my weight down!0 -
Thanks for the suggestion!0

I was trying that for the past 2 weeks. I changed my breakfasts to eggs, had a hearty salad with protien on it for lunch, snacks were yogurt or milk or cheese or meat, and at dinner i either had cauliflower mashed instead of potatoes or i limited my carbs portion, 1/2 cup or brown rice or noodles instead of a full cup and upped my veggies and meat a bit. Also started on more protein shakes.
btw i found i need more fiber if you know what i am saying. So i am back on you cereals in the morning.0 -
Generally, the lower the carb, the more you'll lose. If I'm looking to be strict and lose weight at a decent clip, I aim for ketosis and stay under 50g of carbs, all coming from vegetables and some nuts (and maybe the occasional handful of berries).
Right now, I'm looking to lose weight but don't want to restrict myself too much, so I stay under 100g (again all vegetables, but I throw in a bit more fruit.
I'd suggest aiming for a month to see how you feel. The easiest, most pleasant - and arguably most efficient - way to do it is to not worry about the fat and protein you're eating. Your body will self regulate and you will be full from the fat and protein you eat. I'm 6'2, 205lbs, and I have a hard time going over 2000 calories per day because I'm so full. I ate 3000 yesterday because the steak we were having was so delicious, and I still can't eat because I'm full. (Eating sugar and grains, I would have a hard time not going above 3000 - felt I was always starving myself)0 -

Generally, if you're low carb and have troubles with 'that', you likely aren't getting enough fat in your diet. Magnesium also helps a lot with getting through that.
There are some opinions that there are often problems with that when people's fibre drops since your gut needs to recover from the damage caused by fiber dependency. I'd recommend having a look at gutsense.org or reading Fibre Menace.
Not saying it's the absolute truth, but something worth thinking about at least.0 -

You are the second person to tell me to shoot for staying under 100g of carbs... so I changed my diary preferences to reflect a 90g goal!
I really appreciate all the help and suggestions I am getting on this topic! I dont feel like I am going into this blind anymore!0 -
It's actually a great way to eat!
You still get your good carbs, but it's low enough to be successful.
I find by eating this way I never feel deprived and usually won't end up in a binge! (Unless I make homemade cinnamon buns......OUCH!! hehe)0 -

Happy I could help. I'd be interested to know how that works for you.
Also looking at your diary, I'd recommend upping your fat intake a little to keep you from going hungry.
If you're concerned about saturated fats (I won't get into why I think the sat fat thing is a big myth), olive oil is great for getting some fat, as are nuts, fish, avocado and whole eggs. Coconut and coconut oil, despite being a saturated fat is pretty widely seen as healthy because it's medium-chain fatty acids.0 -
I follow a paleolithic "diet" (if you want to call it a diet?)
I also typically shoot for around 100grams of carbs. I don't eat any grains, and if I do eat fruit - it's from berries (they happen to be low GI). I do toss in some sweet potatoes (because they are nutritiously nummy) but yeah, mostly my carbs come from vegetables. Lots o vegetables! If you're concerned about saturated fats (I won't get into why I think the sat fat thing is a big myth), olive oil is great for getting some fat, as are nuts, fish, avocado and whole eggs. BINGO! Love the good saturated fats! I love me some coconut oil. I usually cook with coconut oil or sweet cream butter.0
