Lactose Intolarant

Hello everyone. I have just found out that I am lactose intorelant which is part reason that no matter my exercise and food watching I was still gaining weight. Since I found out I lost 7 pounds in the first 4 days and 2 weeks later I am at an 8 pound loss.

Needless to say all my favourite foods contain some sort of milk ingredient and I know now I have a severe allergy to it (even with lactose pills).

I am in desperate need of some recipes that would give me the feeling of maybe having cream sauces, pizza, anything that has to do with milk.

Can anyone help?

Are you lactose intolerant, or do you have an allergy to dairy? Those are two very different illnesses. I am lactose intolerant, so I get some stomach upset from dairy, but can get by with lactase. I do not experience anaphylactic shock, hives, or other inflammatory responses because I am not allergic to milk.

Have you tried soy products? I saw on the show the doctors the other day that soy actually helps your body to lose weight. And many soy products taste great! Silk is a great soy beverage you can replace milk with it in your recipes and soy cheese will go great on your pizza. My old roommate was severely lactose intolerant due to her chrome's disease and she pretty much got me hooked on chocolate Silk and this soy ice cream that was flavoured like mint chocolate oreo. YUM. Unfortunately, soy products are more expensive and sometimes harder to find. If you have an organic grocery store where you live you may want to check there. They carry more of a variety and their brands are generally of a higher quality so they taste better. Also the sales staff will be better able to help you out. Good luck!

Can you tell me where I can find good information on the Lactase Pills and how long have you been using them? As I get older I'm becoming more and more lactose intolerant. I have switch to several soy products but would love to enjoy a bowl of ice cream without the cramps.

You can find lactase pills in the pharmacy section of any store. The name brand is Lactaid, but any pill containing lactase will break down lactose. Lactase is just a digestive enzyme that many people stop producing with age. We probably didn't evolve to drink milk for as long as we currently do, so we just stop expressing the gene.

You can also find Lactaid milk which contains lactase. I LOVE milk so I drink this stuff. I also carry my lactase pills with me...about 2 per dish is really all you need. I have been using them for almost 2 years now. I still can't digest whey in large amounts though, so I have to avoid whey protein powder and cottage cheese. Ice cream is fine though.

Thank you so much :flowerforyou: The information I have found on the web has been so confusing that I just gave up. I talked to my doctor and all she said was to avoid the food for now until I get tested. I got allergy test and my reaction wasn't bad to milk but when I drink it I want to die. So at least I know I'm not allergic to milk but intolerable. When I get off of work I will be puchasing a few boxes of Lactase Pills so I can have at least one glass :drinker: of milk again. :flowerforyou:
