To reach my goal, I need to lose a total of 9lbs by Aug 3rd. I am wondering if this is to ambitious being that we are near the middle of July. Any thoughts?

You can do it!0

It can be done, with hard work, proper diet. I lost 18 pounds in June. Cutting back on carbs helps too.0
-
Not trying to rain on your parade, but judging from your signature it took you 6 weeks to lose 9 lbs already. Do you really think you can lose another 9 in half that time? That would be 3 lbs a week which isn't a healthly loss goal.0
-
No, I've lost eight pounds in two weeks.0

If you work hard enough, You'll defiantly make your dead line : 3. And even if you don't at least you're closer than when you started.0
-
I think you can do it!! stick to your calorie goals, exercise, and drink LOTS and LOTS of water! Good Luck!0

9 pounds is equal to 31,500 calories. 08/03/11 is 20 days away.
So, if my math is correct, you will have to average a deficit of 1,575 calories each day.
Very difficult goal, but possible!! Good Luck.0 -
If your committed, stick to healthy eating & regular excercise you can definitely do. Try to minimise carbs & snack on nuts, fruit & protein.

thanks for your thoughts...I will work hard and see where I get by that time. Even if I dont make it, I will have lost a significant amount of weight!0

The whole "Calories In/Calories Out" is a myth. Well, at least for most of the population. If you are genetically predisposed to being "thin" or in a healthy BMI, then yes, it still applies. However, if you have a weight problem, especially if you've had it for most of your life, it just doesn't work that way. Just thinking about a typical female, we have hormones that affect our biochemistry in ways that even WE don't understand! It doesn't just ignore our metabolism, but screw up everything else. LOL
All I'm saying is not to get frustrated if all your "good" efforts don't show up on the scale. What is most important is having a healthy relationship with food and working on the mental aspects of being happy in your skin. I still wish you success in reaching all your goals0 -

It's definitely not a "myth"! It's working for me! And I've had a weight problem most of my life.
I do agree that your good efforts might not show up on the scale because you could be lifting weights and losing inches.
OP - You can do it! You have to be vigilant with your food and exercise diaries.0 -
I recently had left knee surgery replacement, then an infection set in so I was at home not moving for 3 months, now for the last 3 weeks I have been out doing fast high speed walking with a little very light jog, and keeping track of calories on myfitnesspal and I have already lost the 9 lbs I gained while not moving and just eating because of mild depression about the infection. I am up to 3.5 miles a day burning close to 600 calories each time combined with proper calorie intake. The reason I am burning 600 calories is due to the major hill work I am doing. It gets easier each time you do. Count the calories is just a small piece of the puzzle...0

Log everything you eat & drink accurately & honestly. Buy a digital food scale, and weigh everything you eat—even packaged food. Measure all liquids with calories.
The Sexypants post should be required reading for all MFPers: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1080242-a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-Sexypants0 -

Thanks for your incorrect input. Gastric bypass forces people to do one thing ... eat less which results in fewer calories consumed ... and in turn weight loss.0 -

It will take a lot of will power, but it's possible. I lost 10lb in two months once, and that was just by exercising, not cutting back on food. Good luck!0

aim for it, if you dont do it, dont worry about it you still have time, but go for it!0

To anyone about to respond....it says in the title 2011...this is 3 years old.
And calories in/calories out is NOT a myth. Strong first post of totally wrong, factually incorrect, bad info.0 -

No, that's because of Reganomics, the light "trickles down" to us, and if the earth were round, the sun wouldn't light up everywhere, so its got to be flat. Get real and think man! Another proof? Palin can see Russia from her house!0
