Today in my Olympic weightlifting class, I was pushed by the girl I was working with to add more and more weight. (I would have been happy to just stuck with the one weight and just done several reps and worked on form.) I hit a personal best that I never would have expected.

I did a clean and jerk with 50lbs. I know, that's really not all that much, but it was a ton to me, considering it was my 4th O-lifting class overall, and the last class we did c&j I was using half of that weight. (I'm still using the training bar.)

But that's still 50lbs from the ground to over my head.

Good for you. Now that you have exceeded your "normal", you can do it more and more. The sky is the limit for you!

Wow. That sounds impressive. I know I couldn't lift 50 pounds from the ground to over my head. Rock on!

Congrats and keep it up where do you train? 50 pds is great you have to start from the beginning My daughter is an Olympic weightlifter her weight group is 75+ she is training for the 2012 Olympics. Check on the internet for teamusa and they will have a link Senior Nationals are in Iowa. My daughter (Sarah Robles) lifts on Sunday but she said they are only streaming Saturday you may be interested. Its nice to see more and more girls getting into it, it helps in all sports. My daughter has a blog called Prettystrongblog.com.

I am training at Joust Strength and Fitness in Ann Arbor, MI.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to check out her blog and the Women's Senior Nationals if I get a chance on Saturday. I watched a lot of video on YouTube of the women and I was really impressed.

When I first heard my gym had the O-lifting class I was really skeptical, but after doing some of the moves in CrossFit, I figured I'd give it a shot because it was a lot of fun. I found out that 1) CrossFit lifting is VERY different and 2) O-lifting is a blast!

As for starting from the beginning, the trainer actually took the training bar with no weight on it away from me in my first class and gave me back my piece of PVC pipe and had me work with that because I was just so bad. All of a sudden, the second week, it just clicked and now she says I'm doing really well. We really focus on form because it's a lot easier to fix it now while I'm just learning than to try to fix it later when I'm lifting a lot more.

my daughter was telling me a story of her coaches 2 year old he was lifting the pvc and he got a wedgie with his big boy underwear took his one hand off the bar to release his wedgie and just returned his hand to the bar. I told her too bad she couldn't do it . She said it was very funny and cute.
