I OFFICIALLY have finally met all my running goals. I started out not able to run for a full 2 minutes without slowing to a walk. So this is huge for me.

Run a 5k in 35 minutes by August 1st, 2011
MET 6/12/2011 - Time: 28:05

Run a 5k in 30 minutes by Oct 1st, 2011
MET 6/12/2011 - Time: 28:05

Run a 5k in 25 minutes by Feb 1st, 2012
MET 7/14/2011 - Time: 24:43

This was especially hard for me because.... well lets be honest. I abhor running. I always have. I can't seem to turn my brain off and just RUN, I am constant;y thinking about every single move I am making.

I function a lot better when I can focus on a single thing and just do it. "CHASE THE BALL". That works for me. "Flatten that SOB across from the scrimmage line" That works for me. Running? Not so much.

So why did I finish my goals? Because I had to. I couldn't let them go. I set those goals when I was fat, and damnitt, they were going down. I pushed myself to finally beat them. I can now, OFFICIALLY let running go, and never do it again, except for a warmup. (Trail running is a different story, I am talking like indoor/city running)

What is my point?
Don't be like me. Find something you ENJOY doing. Find tennis, swimming, MMA, boxing, WHATEVER to get your cardio in. I came so close to quitting, over and over again, because I detest running. Don't do the things you don't like to do! There is so many activity groups out there that are awesome. Get out of your house and make some new friends!

Oh I already did! I play tennis 2-3 times a week, I started rock climbing again, I kitesurf, and I do hill sprints!

Of course, now that I am trying to build more muscle definition, I am supposed to cut back on cardio.... :D

It's a love/hate/throw up when I push too hard kind of a relationship.

That's really good dude, I detest running and would love to follow your advice, but progression is so easily measured it's tough not to run. I did a 5k in 29:55 and I almost killed me. Now Im averaging about 32. I'd love to regularly do a sub 30. Maybe one day! Well done mate

Yeah Avalonis!! That's a major accomplishment! You rock!! Have a flower - :flowerforyou:

I also detest running...........and just dont do it! But you know, it seems to be the best thing to get slim quickly, so I'm gutted I dont like it. But I love, love, love P90X and Turbofire, so I agree with your sentiment, do what you enjoy doing, as long as youre moving, right?

Congrats Av! Proud of you! You did an excellent job!

I am not a big runner either, even though I used to play soccer?. Anyway, my goal is to finish a 5k in 30 minutes. I am gradually working my way up to that but I have recently discovered that I kind of like running so it's not complete torture when I do it.
