Hi, i went 100 or so over my 1200 calorie allowance yesterday which i was quite ok with, then after my evening Zumba class i put into MFP the 500 calories that i'd burned and it gave me almost that over in my net, by then it was 9pm so i wasnt going to eat anything that late.
So my question is should i eat more on the days i do Zumba, say going over by 400/500 calories as i know that is roughly what i will burn or should i just stick to the 1200 ish.

Many Thanks

I dont eat all of my exercise calories back...you just have to play with it and see what the scale says...but If I was you I would eat half back on those days
  • On days where I have an evening class and I'm burning a lot of of calories, I add in a healthy but sustainable snack. At present, I love hummus, wholemeal pita and chilli infused olive oil. I eat this at about 3/4pm as my class starts at 7:30pm. I always eat more on this day but I burn a lot of this day.

I usually factor it into my daily food intake if I am doing a spin class.

I don't feel like eating much after spin either so I just make sure I have some quorn and veggies afterwards.

I've noticed if I eat it back I don't lose so I'm going to start adding my exercise cals at the end of the day rather than in advance as I find I tend to eat more of them if they are there early.

A quick question to those above - how do you add mini goals to your profile? Looked and can't find it! Thanks

Go to 'Tools' and add a ticker... if that's what you mean by mini-goal? I could be wrong!:)

    My though on this:

    1) Your body can cope with about 1700 Calories of exercise without refuelling - This doesn't mean its OK not to eat these calories back - it just means your workout/recovery wont be effected if you don't eat them same day...

    2) You should try and net your target calories over a week. There is some leeway here but being consistently under will result, at best, in you feeling really tired and under performing physically and mentally.

    3) Never let worrying about being under calories stop you working out!!!

    4) The best time to eat energy food (Carbs) is around 2 hrs before you work out... but its actually OK to eat them the night before for a morning workout. (A lot of people feel ill if they try and cram in breakfast before a morning run).

    5) Its always good to take on protein and carbs within 30 mins of completing a work out. If you cant face something big, get a supplement.

    6) If you feel fine, ignore all the above and keep doing what you're doing. Your body knows best.

Yes, if you know you are going to be burning lots of cals it is a good idea to add some extra healthy food into your meals/snacks earlier in the day. Your body is working hard, you need to give it good fuel to run on.
