Gas from eating salad?

Please forgive me, I realize this is kinda gross, but I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? For the past two nights I have had salad for dinner, when I woke up the next morning I had horrible gas pains in my stomach and it wasn't moving. I ended up buying some gas-x and that has helped.

Is it possible that the lettuce is the culprit? Normally I eat and iceberg and romaine blend, but I've been experimenting with field green variety lately. That's the only thing I can think of that's different. I want to try new healthy foods, but not if it's going to hurt like this! :frown:

It can, but once your body gets use to it you will no longer get gassy from it. The trick it when changing your diet to add stuff in slowly over time to allow your system to get use to it. Hope this helps.

Yes, mee too. Especially because I put spinach in my salads.

I began experiencing unbelievable (non-moving) gas after eating iceburg lettuce several years ago. It's only iceburg lettuce that does it. I can eat Romaine, mixed greens, baby spinach--no problems. But let me eat 1 leaf of iceburg lettuce, and I will be bent over with stomach pain in a matter of a couple of hours. I've learned to ASK at restaurants if they use iceburg or Romaine, and I've been pleasantly surprised at how many restaurants will actually make a salad for me using Romaine or mixed greens if I only ask.

The "yard clipping" salads (as my husband calls them) have more fiber than iceburg lettuce. And more nutrients, too, but more fiber typically means more farting. Sometimes more than just farting.

I've had more... uh... URGENT matters with "yard clippings," including having to stop at a fast food joint to use their ladies' room because the ten minute ride home from the restaurant was too long. But raw spinach doesn't have any negative effects on me, so that's my salad green of choice now.
