Night is when your body repairs itself and wants to rest/sleep. Workouts are better done during the day, when our bodies are naturally burning energy and firing through the daylight hours. Working out does not give you energy, but it puts your body in a false sense of alertness and readiness. Workout in the morning or afternoon, continue to eat normally, and be in bed before the next day starts; otherwise you throw off your own biological clock.

Try taking melatonin about an hour before bed. This helps me when I work out late. It is a totally natural ingrediant that your body produces but sometimes it needs a little help especially if you are working out within 3 hours of bedtime. Good luck and happy dreams to you!

That's odd, I'm the opposite. I workout at night because it's the only time that fits my schedule, and when I do I sleep like a log!

If you can, try working out in the morning for a week or so to see if it helps your sleep

I have recently discovered that I have sleep apnea. I used to often sleep poorly, and even when I did sleep I would still be tired when I woke-up (and often have a really bad head-ace). Eventually I got so that I was always in a grouchy mood as well. I mentioned this to my doctor, who referred me to a sleep specialist. He said that sleep apnea affects far more people than you would suspect, it not only robs you of a good nights sleep, it can shorten your life! And the problem is, it is almost impossible for a person to know they have it without a specialist. However, there are some strong indicators such as Morning headaches, Memory or learning problems and not being able to concentrate, Feeling irritable, depressed, or having mood swings or personality changes, Urination at night and A dry throat when you wake up.

I urge anyone that has sleep problems to check this out. I now have a machine I use when I sleep at night, and I know it looks horrible, but man do I sleep good with it! I now have wonderful dreams and wake rested every morning.

Work out after you get done with work or in the morning. When you work out before you go to bed your blood is flowing and your addrenalin is pumping... You'll never get to sleep. When I play hockey I can't sleep until 3-4 hours after a game.

That happened to me too when I worked out at night. So, you can try it a few more nights and see if it's that or not. But a lot of ppl just can't workout at night :( While others can. You could try a different kind of workout at night too - like weight lifting instead of cardio, building muscle stip ups your metabolism :)
