So my doctor said......

I went to my doctor yesterday for my yearly check-up. I told her about everything that I was having problems with, and I told her that the scale hand was not moving...... (I know, I know, I don't do the greatest at keeping my calorie count low, but it's mainly the weekends that I do bad, It's not that I'm gaining, just maintaing somethint that I want to go away, anyways.....)

My doctor said that I'm not morbidly obese or anything (but I am 20lbs over weight) She said not to worry about it; I have a cute figure, and she's not worried about health threats since I do exercise so much.

This did make me feel pretty good about myself, BUT I DON'T WANT TO BE 20 LBS OVERWEIGHT ANYMORE!!!!! I know she's just trying to help my stress levels, but I really want to lose. :( Her answer, I guess, was not the answer I wanted to hear. I wish she would have said, "Yes, Kappy, you need to lose this weight, and you need to do so soon." I think that answer would have helped me and encouraged me and motivated me to really keep my calories under control. ARGH.

I'm really trying so hard. I need some support, encouragement, motivation. We're going to my friend's party tomorrow (which starts at 2:00 pm - she has a pool) I know there's going to be a lot of drinking and eating going on. This is not going to help my efforts. How do I stay on track at something like this? I've already scheduled a 60 min TurboFire workout in the morning and a 75 min. Zumba class before the party. I know these will help with any extra calories, but gosh, I don't want it to be like that all the time. How do I control my appetite/drinketite?

  • After you've started losing weight it gets harder and harder to fall off. I always find I can lose the first 10lbs so easy then after that it's hell. You need to mix it up a little. Try new things. :) xx

I recommend you eat before you go and limit yourself to 2 drinks then just go with diet soda or water. Everything you eat should go on a plate and sit down to eat so you can keep better track of what you eat rather than "grazing". That is what I do and I will also save up calories from earlier in the week so I can have extra calories on the weekend.

When it comes to parties, functions, meetings etc. that involve food I tend to bring my own food, or at the very least eat only small portions of what's there and leave it at that. Don't know what to tell you about the drinking part, that stuff tastes atrocious to me anyway. I only drink water.

If you're maintaining your weight, you might want to quit cheating on the weekends. A moderate caloric deficit during the week can be completely negated by overindulging during the weekend.

I am sure you already knew that though. Just need to tighten up your diet and you'll get those last 20 lbs off.

The motivation has to come from inside yourself. You have to believe that you really want to lose the weight, that it is completely doable if you are willing to put in the work. My doctor said sort of the same thing to me, but I felt like a whale, nevertheless.

I finally decided it was time and then I found MFP which made the technical portion of the program very easy. After that it was just up to me.

You need to stay within your calorie goals. Yeah, I know it's hard. Yeah, I know it sucks in social situations, but believe me, I was in the same boat until I really started getting serious about staying within goals.

Are you planning on swimming inn the pool? I went to a pool party 2 weeks ago burned over 600 calories form just playing pool games and swimming. I did a small exercise before hand burning 200 calories. I ate about 1950 calories that day and i pretty much ate back my calories. you need to make the right food choices, unknown sausage, burgers and potato salads can cost you big time so eat chicken, garden salads, fresh fruit and veggies. If you have the MFP app on your phone the you shouldnt have a problem.
I brought 99 calories coolers and had 3 of them.

It's really all about how bad you want something. Regardless if you want to lose the 20lbs, if you want to enjoy your self more than you want to lose the 20lbs, you'll end up partying. And while exercising to comp for the party is great, you've already made the decision to drink because you've thought of comping for it.
Why not just have a limit? Be be adamant about it. 2 drinks and done. Then be disciplined enough to think that if you indulge any more, that all that effort you put in that day was for naught.

Completely agree there. I've always wanted to loose weight but never done anything about it until now...theres a want and something much stronger and when than stronger feeling comes along it just seems to fix into place...with me anyway!

If you really want to lose the weight, then you will need to watch what you eat/how much you eat more closely.
  • I'm going to do it. I WANT to LOSE WEIGHT! I have never been this big in my life! I feel YUCKY, UGLY, GROTESQUE, but soon I will be BEAUTIFUL, SCRUMPTIUS, DELICIOUSLY SEXY.

I can do this. I can do this. I CAN and WILL do this!

I know exactly what you mean lol. Conversation with my doc last year:

Dr: So ur lipid panel came back. Everything's good-
    Me: YAY
Dr: -except... cholesterol. It's 201, slightly elevated
Me: OMGSHFJDSK. *Clutches heart. WHAT DO I DO.
Dr: Meh. *flips some papers. Your weight's normal. Don't worry about it.
    Me: NooOOOooo. GIVE ME ADVICEEE.

Sorry. I guess that didn't help you much. But I think your doc's point is not to get too caught up with losing weight, since you're not a classified medical emergency.
