Any advice on getting 100 grams of protein per day?

Yesterday, the doctor got my lab results and confirmed that I have insulin resistance. She put me on a diet of a maximum of 1800 calories and a minimum of 100 grams of protein. I thought that would be pretty easy. However, yesterday proved to be more difficult than I thought making the protein requirement. Anyone have any great meal or snack ideas? How much of your daily protein to you allocate for each meal?

    Tuna
    Almonds
    Fish
    Chicken
    Lean cuts of Steak
    Lean Ground Turkey
    Eggs

Look to lose 2lbs per week by eating a 1000 calorie deficit of what your maintenance is.

Basically what he wrote. Cut down on your carbs and eat more of what he wrote.

If you do that, you should have no problem at all staying under 1800 calories.

If you're insulin resistant, I'd stay away from dairy as much as you can. Cottage cheese has an especially high amount of protein, but dairy is very insulinogenic, so you should be careful with that.

Also don't skimp on eating fat. Alot of people have the idea in their heads that when they are trying to lose weight and burn fat, that they start eating 30-40g of fat per day or even less. This is an extremely bad idea.

    Your body needs fat.

With your body composition you should be looking to eat roughly 80g of fat a day at minimum. Eat your minimum required proteins at 100g, although you can go higher than that. Try to stay around 130-150g of carbs per day.

    Your macros should be:

    80g of fat = 720 calories
    120g of protein = 480 calories
    140g of carbs = 560 calories

This equals 1740 calories which is just about right. Also remember that meal timing is irrelevant, and it doesn't matter if you eat late at night.

I tend to have a fair amount of eggs and dairy to meet my protein requirements. And I have a fairly large (usually around 6 ounce) portion of lean meat or fish at dinner. I aim for each meal to have at least 20g of protein. Here are some things I include on a regular basis:

    Greek yogurt
    fat-free (or low-fat) milk
    eggs and egg whites
    chicken breast
    shrimp
fish (steelhead trout, mahi mahi, tilapia)
    lean ground beef (96/4)
    Kashi Go Lean cereal

Add me as a friend if you'd like to see my diary and get some ideas for combinations that might work for you. (Note: I am a moderately clean eater, but far from perfect. I do eat a restaurants a couple of times a week and have some packaged foods.)

Best wishes on your journey to better health. :flowerforyou:

Bison meat is really good - very lean, very high in protein. Not sure which area you live in but it's fairly common here in the Northeast.

If you are anything like me, you get into situations where you can't eat a normal meal. If I know my day is going to be like that I take almonds and beef jerky in my purse. As long as sodium isn't an issue for you, beef or turkey jerky is low cal, low carb and very high in protein. Coupled with a bottle of water you can go a few hours between regular meals.
