I read in a thread that the scale reflects what you ate two days ago? Is this true? Anyone know?

Sure...high sodium, high carbs, lack of water can all cause water retention for days.

May help to read this, it's a pretty good explanation of why the scale isn't necessarily helpful in determining progress, and certainly not of day-to-day success.

I usually find that a really good workout takes 48 hours to show up on the scales.

Well I don't know if it is true, but I know in my own experience, the weeks that I think the scale should be down are usually the weeks that are not. Then the next week when I did not stick to it so well, the scale shows I lost weight. I noticed it especially when
I was on weight watchers.. so now when I have a bad week on the scale, I just say, "well next week should be good"

I know I had a weight watchers leader tell us it takes like 3 days to get rid of the sodium from a pickle.

Not sure if it is true. Although, it does take at least 24 hours to fully digest food (unless you have coeliacs) The only things that are digested straight through the stomach lining into the blood are things like alcohol and certain medicines. So after 24 hours I suppose your body will either burn or store and this could take another 24 hours to see the difference on the scales.

Great article, LadyHawk00. Thanks for the info!
  • A friend of mine at work has been going to a doc to lose weight and the doc told her the same thing. It takes a couple of days for the scale to reflect what you ate. Which is why if I have a bad day and weigh myself the next morning I think I did good for what I ate. But in reality I should weigh myself 2 days later.

Hmmm....interesting...I generally see an effect when I test how things work with my body.

I log every Sunday though. It's after my rest day and I'm hoping the water gets flushed from my muscle....perhaps that's where the 48 hour thing comes in because I take a day off, then see results.

My scale reflects things I ate 3 months and 3 years ago right now! LOL! ;)

Lots of good info, though. Thanks for asking!
