How do you view the scale?
If it goes up, does it motivate you or depress you?
How often do you weigh yourself?
Do you think weighing in everyday is mentally unhealthy?
Just wanted to see how others feel about the scale out of curiosity.

i only count losses. Every time the scale says something different than that low weight, i saw to myself "stupid scale is wrong" :P !!! I am always right. lol0

It only depresses me when I know I'm doing everything right & it doesn't change. Otherwise, I have no reason to be mad at the scale since it's my fault. I've gained weight so I've been weighing every few days to keep an eye on things. I think mental health according to the scale is very much dependant on the person. I can do it and not lose my head over it because I understand what's going on with me but I've seen people go crazy over the scale so I think it really depends on personality, habits, mindset, etc.0

The scale is a sounding board for me. It tells me how well/not well I'm doing with my eating habits.
Lately (for the past 7 months) I've been plateaued and my scale depresses me more often then not
I used to weigh myself atleast once a day, but usually 2,3,4,5+ times a day
I think it CAN be mentally unhealthy yes (was in my case) and so i've put my scale away for a month.0 -
if im honest i weigh myself lots of time in one day nad can see a fluctuation up to 4 llbs some days up and down....the weight i use for my actual analysis is only once a week on a saturday morning...
experts say to measure ur weight first thing in the mornig, no clothes on after u have been to the toilet...
it depends on u i guess if it demotivates u dont do it ...i have only just started my weightloss journey but lets see0 -
I weigh daily, record weekly. If I see an up number (even knowing that it's likely normal fluctuation), I think "Oh crap... better get my butt in gear." If it's down, I take note of what I'd been doing in the days prior and give myself a mini "pat-on-the-back".0

I weigh every morning right out of bed. It's the most consistent time of day for me. Yes, I get sad if the scale goes up  but I try to let it be a reminder to make good choices for the day. I guess everyone needs to find what works for them. :flowerforyou:0

In the long run, the scale is just a reference point for me. If I could fit into a size 8-10 and feel good about my body (I'm feeling pretty good about it already), then I really don't care if the scale reads 155 or 125. If I don't like what I see on the scale, it usually motivates me (kicking it helps too! LOL). I know you're not supposed to weigh every day, but I do just to make sure I'm staying on track or need to reign myself in. But, my actual weigh-in day is Tuesday and that's the only day the number really counts or matters.0

great responses keep em' coming, lol . . .for me, I weigh everyday, but record once a week or maybe even record once every two weeks. I would try to stop weighing myself for days but it is habit forming. it actually motivates me to do better if it goes up and I know it isn't due to a normal weight fluctuation.0

It can motivate me or make me feel irritated and impatient, it just depends on my mood. I try not to weigh myself throughout the day, only in the mornings right when I wake up. I try to focus on the things that will make the scale move down: eating right and getting my exercise in. As long as I do that and don't stress out over losing quickly, the weight will come off. Hope that helps! :smooched:0

For me the scale is a confirmation of what I did the previous day. I get to see if my plans worked or failed.
If my weight is down, I eat my calorie limit. If it is up, I eat less and workout more. If it is steady, I eat the same and workout more. This isn't a rule. it is just what I tend to do.0 -
i get frustrated at first. then i get detremined.
the scale matters a lot to me. i just wanna be under 200 alreadyy! ughh!
i think weighing myself everyday is decieving, but at the same time helpful.
most of the time i hate what the scale has to say, but i know it's right.0 -
I weigh myself every morning. If I have gone up - I ask myself WHY. If I've stayed the same - I ask myself WHY. If I've gone down - I ask myself WHY. And then I know that the scale is a primitive tool and the pressure points on our feet throw it off, along with periods, water weight, salt, etc. I use it just as indication I really don't care what it says. I'm not fixiated on the number. As long as I'm smoking hott when I'm done, I don't care what I weigh.0

How do you view the scale? - It's a tool. I have a love/hate relationship with it, and as with all things diet and exercise, I eventually had to give up my "all or nothing" attitude with the scale, too. Everything in moderation, including the scale!
If it goes up, does it motivate you or depress you? - Neither. If it goes up, it's usually because either (a) I didn't follow the plan that week and overate a bunch, or (b) It's water weight. Neither of these things is enough to motivate or depress me. My motivation comes when I LOSE weight, not when I gain it!
How often do you weigh yourself? -Once a week or less.
Do you think weighing in everyday is mentally unhealthy? - For me, it was. Some people are okay with the daily fluctuations, I am not one of them!0 -
I weigh myself weekly but now I only take into account my body fat as well as how my clothes fit. When I was trying to lose weight, I weighed in every day and used it as a tool to keep me on track. I never got mad because I know that we can retain up to 5lbs of water from one day to the next so as long as within a few days there was progress, I was fine!0

Im done with the scale..... It goes up and down waaay too much. I weigh in occasionally just to keep myself honest, but I worry more about the way I look (toning), the way my clothes fit and the way I feel.... (keep in mind Im pretty much done losing- Im sure it is different if you still have weight to pull off)
It was gettting too depressing to watch the scale, even weekly, because it was never the same from week to week.
So, yes it is a tool.... but I think focusing on it too much could prove dissapointing....0
