Where's the middle ground?

So over the course of the journey, mostly in the last year and half since I've been on message boards, I've watched this ridiculous swing people take during their journey of going from fat and unhealthy not caring what they eat to obsessing over every detail from calories to carbs to processed and non processed, etc. What ever happened to everything in moderation? Balance? I feel like we're just trading one form of disordered eating with another. I'm guilty of it too and have gone down the "clean eating" road and obsessed about it all. I've found that the majority of us who stress and obsess too much often gain some of it back. Some of us are lucky recognize adapt and lose it before it all comes back, but many of us gain it all back.

So again I ask, what happened to moderation?

Nothing happened to moderation. I eat whatever I want, I just watch my portion sizes and I don't eat it all in the same day or the same meal. Lots of people around here eat that way. Some people do get obsessive about clean eating or whatever, and to those people I say, if that works for you, go for it! I don't think there's a right or wrong answer here, only what works for you. Some people really prefer doing the extreme clean eating, and they feel better and they don't miss the junk. I would not be one of those people.

I too have noticed the unhealthy mentality of weight loss on the forum. Having a personal connection with mr. ED, It does seem like the drive to lose is overriding the common sense of slow and steady. Sadly, I think many don't see that, and feel that if they can lose it quickly it will stay off....

Of course let me clarify before I get attacked, I am a firm believer in what works for you and have no problem with any eating style if you enjoy it and can do it comfortably and in a non obsessive way.
