how long to let my muscles heal?

Sometimes I get in a really good work out and I am sore in that body part for days, but I like to work each body part about twice a week. If I am still a little sore, but it has been three or four days, should I rest longer, or just do a lighter workout or what? Any trainers know the answer?

The way I determine it is...
If the soreness gets in the way of normal, daily activities - then I take another break. (like walking, lifting, dressing myself, etc)
But, if it is minor soreness - then I go ahead and workout.
Usually 2-3 days is enough of a healing time for me. I may still have minor soreness, but it isn't getting in the way of me functioning.0 -
I would workout lighter and work upper body one day and legs the next0
