A realization or not? + Progress Thread!

Ok I have just come to the realization of something i think... tell me if i'm right or wrong here people!!

I have always thought that if I eat too much of any food, then i will gain weight. Once i started getting on the "diet" and started eating a less the normal foods, i began to think that i couldnt eat normal amounts of food without gaining weight anymore.

This past week, I have been away in Myrtle Beach. No home cooking just restaurants and hotel breakfast. I have eaten out every day every meal except breakfast and my body has not changed much if any at all. I have chosen either steak, grilled hamburger, or grilled chicken (sandwich or salad) every time i went out (except last night when i enjoyed a nice chicken parm) and when i wake up the next morning, i see very little if no change in my body. Now i am sure that there has been weight gain but it probably has been very minimal because i dont feel the slightest bit different.

Anyway I have also eaten at subway for lunch the past 2 days. I love subway now and will be making it a dedication togo there more often if i ever go out to eat. This vacation has made me come to the realization that I could eat a normal amount of food (NO JUNK FOOD EXPLAINED AT BOTTOM OF THREAD) such as a sandwich, a bag of chips (baked lays, or i prefer special k chips), and a choice of fruit, and maintain weight. And I can eat what my family is eating every night, just at a decent serving size maybe 1.5 because i don't measure everything out.

I don't eat junk food or any kind of desert (other than the occasional ice cream cup at cold stone) and i understand that people say it is ok to have a desert of sweet once in a while, but i just don't like sweets anymore so i don't have them at all.

So here is what I am asking of you MFP people :) Let me know if i have come to a realization or am i not so right on this subject. Thanks guys and I hope to maybe keep this thread up as a progress thread to show how I am doing :)

Sounds like you're finding balance and moderation. Good work!! Be careful with too much Subway. It has a lot of sodium.

    Hi Rich,

I can relate a bit to what you are saying. I have been eating at 1200 calories for a long time now - years. I eat healthy and usually cook for myself at home so I can control what I eat. I am also exercising 5-6 times a week and have been involved in a boot camp class the past 6 weeks. I have been trying desperately to lose weight as I am only 5'1" and I weigh 138 so I have a lot to lose; however, my weight does not budge. The interesting thing is that when I go on vacations, such as a cruise, my calorie intake definitely increases. I still make healthy choices but I eat more since everyone around me does too. When I come back from vacations, I usually end up either at the same weight or below my weight when I left. This leads me to believe that I should probably eat more in help with my weight loss efforts, but because I am not loosing at what I am eating, I can't get myself to do it. I am not sure how to convince my mind that I can eat more. Ugh!

I just got back from a 13 day vacation. I didn't try to eat good (but didn't try to eat all junk either). Had some really wonderful dinners that I'm sure were high sodium and fat. I ate dessert almost every night, but didn't overindulge. However, I was not tracking anything and definitely went over, but by how much I don't know.
I was sure once I got home I would have gained 5 lbs. But NO! I only gained 6 ounces (not even worth noting). I was shocked. However I do feel quite flabby after all that food so getting back on the wagon (I actually missed my fruits and veggies.)
I think this just explains that once you get your motabolism back on track (I met my goal weight last month with middle of the road healthy BMI) that it is ok to eat what you want in moderation. Now I just have to tame my sweet tooth again. :)

Lost 4 pounds ? And now I'm in trouble with my mom for losing it. And in my defense... It was totally accidental bc I ate like a pig in Myrtle beach!
