WEDNESDAY: DID YOU CATCH THE SHOW?
The Biggest Loser Recap: Letting It All Hang Out
Major confrontations exploded on the Ranch this week, along with a temptation that tested the players' knowledge and a gripping challenge. Let me break down what took place with the eight remaining contestants at the Ranch.
Eat This, Not That: Today Show contributor and editor-in-chief of Men's Health David Zinczenko stopped by this week to help Alison conduct the temptation. Thankfully, it turned out to be less of a temptation and more of a quiz - the players didn't have to eat anything; they just had to use their knowledge of calorie loads. The teams were shown two foods and had to identify which one was the lesser of two evils in nutritional terms. The first team to get five correct answers would win a significant advantage at the challenge. It came down to the Black Team's Michelle versus the Blue Team's Heba, who had to guess the calories in 18 light beers compared to a grilled chicken burrito with "the works." Heba guessed correctly that the burrito had fewer calories and won the bonus for her team.
Keep Hanging On: In this week's challenge, the teams were suspended high above the ground in a harness, and each player grasped a rope attached to a weight equivalent to his or her body weight. When one person let go, his or her weight would be transferred to the other team members, and when all the team members let go, that team would be out.
Everyone struggled to keep hanging on, but the Black Team had a disadvantage - as the Blue Team's prize for winning the temptation, the Black Team was given an extra 40 pounds to hold up. In total, the Blue Team carried 932 pounds and the Black Team, including the extra 40, had 918 pounds.
Twenty-five minutes in, Alison made new rule that at the 30-minute mark, one member of each team had to let go. Michelle went at that point, and then Phil slipped off the rope, so it was up to Renee and Coleen to hang on. Coleen let go, and Renee couldn't handle the 918 pounds herself anymore so she had to stop.
In the end, the Blue Team hung on the longest and won their first challenge as a team. As their prize, they got to choose a player from the Black Team whose weight wouldn't count at the weigh-in...a MAJOR advantage!
Shattering Weigh-in: After we had some kick-butt last-chance workouts to get the teams ready, it all came down to the weigh-in. I figured the Blue Team would choose Phil as the player whose weight loss wouldn't count - after all, he was the only guy - but instead they chose Michelle based on the numbers she'd pulled at past weigh-ins. As it turned out, Michelle lost only two pounds, so that wasn't a huge disadvantage.the problem was that rest of my team didn't do much better.
Without Michelle, my Black Team lost a total of 8 pounds. The Blue Team's Brady, on the other hand, lost 13 pounds himself, beating my entire team - a first in Biggest Loser history. Altogether, the Blue Team lost an awesome 27 pounds, and my Black Team went to the elimination room. Ultimately, Renee, Michelle, and Coleen all felt that Phil's heart was back at home and that he would continue to excel there, so they voted him off.
On his return to South Carolina, Phil surprised his wife Amy P. with a ring for their 20th wedding anniversary, and they renewed their vows in front of friends and family - very cute. These days Phil feels like a role model for his kids and is happy to be back home with his wife. He's lost an incredible total of 106 pounds since starting on The Biggest Loser!
Two Weeks From Now: The teams will be no longer, and it'll be up to the players to battle it out individually. Plus, all the eliminated players are coming back! You know only drama can result from that...be sure to tune in!
