Gout/Injuries: What do you guys do to compensate?

Hey all,
I don't know if you all know what gout is, but it's a painful joint problem that puts a stop to my exercising. Whether it's my problem or some other injury you've suffered, I'm just curious to hear from everyone how you guys deal with it as far as your diets and exercises.
I'm on my 3rd day out of the gym and starting to feel some of my momentum fading. What do you guys think?

I understand I was crippled by the pain off and on for a few years.
Look up the Gout haters cookbook. I followed it religiously for six months, which also got my weight down. I have not had a problem since.0 -
I know this sounds crazy, but eat cherries every day and it will help ease the gout. I thought my mom was nuts when she did this, but within 6 months her pain was lessened and she was able to walk again. As for exercising....try shadow boxing while sitting down. They did that with a contestant on the Biggest Loser and he lost tons of weight even though that was his primary form of exercise. Best wishes to you!0

Look at your water intake. I am a long time gout sufferer, I've had attacks since around 17 years old. I found I was not drinking nearly enough water, which is doubly important for us with uric acid metabolism problems.
An offhand gout recommendation was to take in at least 1 oz of water for every 2lbs of bodyweight daily. For me, that worked out to around 4-5L of water a day. At this level, the site recommended a tiny pinch of salt on the tongue for every L of water, to keep electrolyte balance.
I know that when i'm being conscientious about this, i don't have any attacks, but when I start thinking "I don't think I've had much water in the past couple days.. " I can be almost assured I will have an attack the next day or two.
I also have heard the cherry thing, and I believe it's on the level.0 -
I have gout.. TOTALLY sucks!
Water, definitely & I changed my diet to low purine food intake. When I'm not in charge of the cooking, or eat at restaurants, then I just make sure I drink LOTS of water!0
