i got an elliptical yesterday from a friend and tried it for the first time. i thought i might die! lol

i work out every day on the treadmill but this was my first time trying an elliptical.

the tops of my thighs have never burned like this before. it has been HOURS and they still burn!

i then realized that the resistance was up really high. (duh, i should have checked it first) :embarassed:

i have turned it down to NOTHING, i mean as low as the knob goes, and will give it another go tomorrow. i am hoping to go longer and not have so much pain!

just wondering how you all started on the elliptical and if you had some thigh burning pain!

I don't really remember how I started using the elliptical. But it always seemed to me like one of those machines that is just for weight loss, you don't get anything out of it, like the endurance of running. I guess you do get endurance, and such, but it's just not the same.
Ellipticals are very low-impact, so I actually use it to reduce soreness.

I use my elliptical two ways. Sometimes with very little resistance and just go quickly (like running) and go for well over half an hour, working up a real sweat. Or I will turn the resistance up a lot and use it as a sort of strength training tool.

Mine makes me sweat big time!! That is the main reason I love it. I know we are all different but I can burn 1400 plus cals an hour on that thing. I think it's awesome!

My legs burned the first I used it. You will definetely get used to it. Some recommended that I do intervals of low intensity and high intensity. Not sure if it works or no, but that's what I was told. I do medium resistance and medium incline for 10, switch to medium resistance highest incline for 10, and so forth.

yes at first i couldnt do five minutes although i could run forever and ever.

just like any new exercise it'll take time to build your endurance up. now i can get on the elliptical and do 30+ mins no prob.
