After many many positive reviews, I have decided to give Zumba a try. Has anyone else here tried it? What would I classify this as on mfp when entering in my workout, or should I just enter in the calories burned as per my heart rate monitor watch?

hrm for sure!!! also, i use it for cardio at least two times a week and i love it! you dont even realize your workin out till all the sudden you feel the sweat! its good stuff :)
  • Zumba is the most fun I've had working out :) I'm sure you'll love it.
    Very aerobic and fat burning.
Definitely use the monitor. Hope you have a blast!
  • I want to try a zumba class really bad as well! I have heard amazing things about it. I actually have a zumba game for my wii which is entertaining but I feel a class would emerse me in more fun and energy! Zumba is supposed to be a great way to burn lots of calories too! :)
    Hope your session is great!

Today I'm attempting a 3 hour Zumbathon for charity! I'm a complete Zumba virgin, although the wife loves it, and I've been roped into it. I think there's going to be around 650 people there so it should be a good laugh. Only ever hear positive things about Zumba so I'm sure if you throw yourself into it that you'll love every minute :)

defintily use ur HRM....especially if you have one with the chest strap! mfp doesnt "estimate" the amount properly for me... It doest generally account for how much you put into it... i love ZUMBA....like really obsessed! I find you either love it...or hate it... it really depends on your instructor! my suggestion is make sure you go at least 3 times before you make your mind up...because the first couple of classes your not going to know the choreography... ones you learn the steps you will feel more comfortable... and if you dont like the instructor then try another...... I was trying to go to ZUMBA min 2 times a week but since its summer and my wed class doesnt have AC its cancelled to sept.... so some weeks i only get to go 1 time due to work...and that week is such a sad week!! I average about burning 800 calories a class... the more pep in your step the more you burn.... :)

This is excellent advice! I'd be lost without my HRM now. MFP is nowhere near accurate on cals burned for me.

I love love love Zumba. Started it a few months back and haven't missed a week since. I have the wii game and am looking to get some dvd's too. Use your hrm to monitor your cals!

I LOVE zumba, what a great workout! I don't have a monitor yet, so I just use www.zumbacalories.com to figure it out ... it is typically over 800 calories burn for me, and I believe it! I have never worked so hard yet had so much fun! Hope you enjoy it!

I love Zumba and there is Aquazumba as well. What I like is that in most places you can pay as you go or you can get a group of sessions for a price. This way you are not locked into a membership at a gym. By me, the community center offers it for $4.00 a class if you are a member.

Thanks for the tips, everyone! I most definitely will give it a try. Maybe find my rhythm again? Hehe.

Thats very admirable, wozmon. Please let me know how it went!
