Relapse experience

After exactly 13 months of quitting smoking and seriously reducing bad food, physical inactivity and much less drinking, I relapsed for a 2 month period. I "had to", as I was under serious stress from work. I just couldn't cope otherwise.
I was quite happy going back where I was previously, and of course also hated myself for it too.
Eventually, I decided not to feel guilty about the relapses, but it was harder than I expected to sort myself out again. Much harder. That was the part I didn't like. I didn't want to feel "like that" again.
Well, I'm back here now and I think I should be okay.
For all: relapse can happen any unexpected time. I got up that morning once again committing to never to.... And yet, the same day..
It's really about accepting that both sides are part of one the same person.

Dust yourself off and begin a new day. The past does not equal the future. You are strong and you can do this and you have taken a big step today just talking about it. Don't forget to pray during the tough times. With God, all things are possible! Wishing you the best!0

It's great that you are able to be so honest with yourself. That truly is the hardest part. I quit smoking for 8 years. Last November a really good friend passed away and I found myself at his funeral which turned out to be more of a sad high school reunion, smoking outside to keep me from watching his father cry next to his casket. Before you knew it, I was buying a pack or two every couple days without even thinking. Before I knew it, I was quitting all over again and it was so much harder than the first time.
Welcome back and god luck to you. You can do this. You already accomplished the hardest part- telling yourself and everyone else the truth.0 -
