I am glad I have MFP...

Because even though my husband supports me, especially since he doesn't give me looks when I measure everything I eat, I know it's hard for him to have to live with me anymore. lol While I'm not on a complete turn-around, I have changed some of my habits. I don't go to get quick fixes for food & snacks anmore. I try to find the lower calorie, healthier stuff to eat.

Like this morning, my husband made french toast. I asked him to use egg beaters for mine, and I measured out the cup of milk to put in there and I used sweet-n-low instead of sugar to give it sweetness. Well, he made me 2. I used a little smart balance butter on each toast, and used (measured) 2 tablespoons of Cary's low-sugar syrup. He sat down with 4 (FOUR!) toasts on his plate, and, even though he used smart balance, put gobs of it on his toast and loaded it down with Aunt Jemimah. I tried not to show it, but I was disgusted & kind of appalled. But I just let him eat it and didn't say anything.

I am hoping that he eventually will start this journey with me. Although he is not obese, he is overweight and is not as in shape as he was 5 years ago when we got together. (Though neither am I, but I"m trying now.) We both gained "happy" weight.

Anyways, long story short, I am glad I have MFP where I can share this and spend time with people going through the same journey and is doing the same things I do. (Like spending more time checking MFP vs facebook.) :)

My hubby came along with me kicking and screaming but he is doing it. I am proud of him. It just took him a while to get it. You may just have to be patient.

My husband on his MFP profile said I made him do it. :) It took some good old fashion nagging, but he actually really likes the website but really likes the mobile app. Says it really easy to use. Being patient was key. We went back and forth on the whole eating healthy thing. When he was into it, I wasn't and when I was gung ho, he wasn't interested. Not sure what synced this time but we are finally started our journey, even if I have to keep pointing him in the right direction. :) It does help to have him with me on this. GOOD LUCK, :flowerforyou:

Aww, that's really great to hear 8D
And I kinda have a similar story to that.

    Hehe, long story short:
my dad is overweight just a bit. It's ok but I WOULD like for him to be healthier.

    He likes to say:
I already had my days where I was fit when I was young. So now, I can eat whatever I want.

Yeah, not much of a good idea, right??

    Hahaa!!

Well, since I am getting help from him to make our meals for the family, it kinda forces him to eat healthy too. But he makes up for it by eating more snacks.

The thing is, I wouldn't want to force him to eat healthy.

Anyway, all I want for him is to eat healthier. Even just a little bit.
    I hope that isn't bad );

I wasn't very nice ... I did a lot of showing off my results (I lost a lot of belly weight early because that was the last bit I'd put on so it was instantly pretty noticable) and a lot of patting his buddha belly and pinching his love handles.... and then a lot of asking him to go for a walk with me, etc. Started asking him to just journal what he eats even without reducing at all and Friday he came home and agreed to do it and found he would be able to eat 600 calories for dinner and be on track to lose a pound a week. Since its pretty easy to stick within that, he went for it. Today he made an effort to make some better choices at breakfast and last night he went for a walk with me (not much of one as I was aching and had to go slow) - dunno if he'll stick with it but it was really starting to bother me too.

I know it feels kinda crappy because its sort of hypocritical - 2 months ago I was doing all the same things and yet now i'm nagging you about them but oh well.

Something to keep in mind is that a) your husband probably has a lot more calories to eat per day than you, so you shouldn't expect him to eat exactly what you eat or in the same portions if he does and b) some of the stuff you think was soooo grossly over the top may not have been THAT bad - 1 tablespoon of smart balance is 80 calories, and that is actually a pretty large amount - he may have only had 2 or 3 tablespoons tops.

PS: Unless you are scraping by getting under your calories every day, go ahead and have the egg yolks, honestly. Egg yolk is where the really good stuff is - the whites have protein, but the yolks have lutein, B2, B12, other vitamins and minerals and they don't really add that many extra calories. And I put a little milk in my eggs so I think that adds sweetness without having to resort to sweet n low and nonfat milk is quite low in calories.

Also the kind of recipe you suggested is one of the reasons that many men don't WANT to diet - sugar free syrup, sweet n low, egg whites. No one wants to really eat like that (I certainly don't) so that kind of thing might be REALLY off putting to him. Maybe suggest he ease up on how much he uses or how many pieces he eats -- like I might say "why don't you just eat 3 pieces and then if you're still hungry I'll cook the 4th for you"

Girl, I really wish we didn't move away! Our hubbys can eat together and we can eat together LOL.

A made me breakfast this morning and he was being very cautious, made me an egg white omelet with mozzarella and bell peppers, and wheat blend pancakes. Also bacon. If I hadn't had the pancakes I would have been okay. I had to be really careful the rest of today and I still went over my calories...and now my stomach is growling. I know I'm already doing better, you know I didn't eat very well before...hello quesadilla burger ;). So I am still struggling...but I try to give myself a break since I've only been doing this 4 weeks. A is slightly overweight, like literally on the border...and he eats A LOT. It isn't all bad stuff, just lots of it. I don't mind him eating all that stuff, but when he makes comments about what I'm eating or how much I'm eating I get a bit perturbed.

Actually, my french toast tasted the same, if not better, than if I had made it using whole eggs and regular sugar. And it was healthier.

M, it's good that A is helping you now. Sometimes I will let the boys create their own dinner and I will make me something else. LIke if they want to have burgers and fries, I have a turkey burger with a salad.

It would be a lot nicer if you lived closer for many reason. How much time you got left there? ;)

Anyways, I know my hubby would probably have more cals to eat than I would...but I really wish he would start trying. He just started the couch to 5K three weeks ago. He has run 5Ks before, but I think he's too out of shape to do it now. So I'm glad he's doing something. I just wish I could get him to join any kind of site and find out how much he should be eating. He doesn't have the patience to count calories, but I think knowhing his calorie # would def help.

Oh I know!! LOL, we've got ABOUT 20ish months for sure...but we're definately putting VA on our list of preferences, especially if I could get hired back over there.
