So my downstairs neighbor has complained about "all the noise" so I'm at a stand still (literally) with my workout. I asked my management to fixed our squeaky floor boards so hopefully that will help. But I'm just so peeved. What do they expect me to do? I'm not going to tip-toe around just because the old fart likes silence. If she wants to pay for my gym membership then great, but of course she won't. It's just so frustrating, we have plenty of workout DVDs, not to mention our wii and kinect games that we would like to play. It's not like I'm thumping all around, I feel like I'm actually quite quiet while doing my workout. Sight. I'm feeling like a prisoner in my own home.

Maybe you could try putting a rug down to help make it quieter?
I hate people like that. Your health is more important than the silence they get to enjoy.0 -

Maybe you can go down and talk to them....just go knock on the door and ask when a good time to come have a cup a tea or something so you can talk to them....then just ask explain your journey and explain why they may hear you thumping while your exercising...I believe if ts at good times then they should be cool with it...maybe all it is gonna take is them kknowing what is really going on....Count it as a blessing cause some women get thumped around by other means and no one ever says anything....know what I mean....0 -
This may sound mean but unless your apartment complex has threatened your removal or you are doing it at 5am or midnight then I would continue to do it. She will have to deal. You aren't breaking any laws or anything and its only 25 mins a day. You're health is important and the fact that you are taking steps to try and do something about it is AWESOME! There are SO many excuses out there to not eat right, workout, etc you don't need a neighbor adding to it.0

I beg to differ. Her health is of no concern to the neighbors and you can't impose your will on others just because you think it's more important that whatever it is others want. That said, OP, unless you are exercising during quiet hours, they have no grounds to stand on and I'd keep doing it if I was you. If you are doing it in the middle of the night then that's a different matter. Of course, this all depends on how much animosity between you and the neighbors you are willing to endure.0 -
I had been doing my exercises at 4:30 three days a week, which is during quiet time. However, this is out in the front room, far away from their bedrooms. I highly doubt that this creates so much noise that it wakes them up. My theory is that they are already awake, it's an elderly woman so I wouldn't doubt it if she wakes up super early. But if she's already awake, what's the big deal? The other four days a week I was doing it during the day, so they can't technically stop me. However, this lady is really close with the management, and they always tell me, "Oh I love her, she's so sweet." So I doubt they would take my side in this manor.
I don't want to build a bad relationship, however I don't want to sacrifice the things I LOVE in my life either. I seriously LOVE working out. It makes me feel better in multiple ways.0 -
