Well my body is freaking out. When I first went to my doctor and had a metabolic test done my body burned 2600 calories at rest. I started gaining weight the last 3 weeks (just 3 pounds) and he retested me. It now burns 1200 calories at rest. What the crap is that all about. I am working my butt off but none of my butt is coming off.

Anyway he lowered my calories (which i am fine with) and my carbs (WHICH IS VERY HARD)
I don't know what to eat for breakfast or lunch that doesn't involve bread or cereal

PLEASE HELP!!:frown:

Focus on denser whole grain breads and rices if you need a fix. Look at the ingrident label and the first words you should see are "whole grain" no processed or any of those words. Another thing that is "good" carbs are Triscuits, Kashi cereals (10g of fiber!! wow!), and of course your veggies and beans.

Avoid any processed carbs. Anything that has more than ten ingredients on the label. And any refined sugars.

Try checking out the Sonoma Diet book at the library. It gives you a great list of high fiber carbs that do good thing to your body! And taste awesome.

  • I do eat whole grain anything. I just need to eat less of them. I just need ideas for breakfast and lunch without it being cereal and sandwiches.

How did he measure your RMR? The test doesn't sound reliable.
  • You could always eat:
    >Eggs
    >Fruit (apple, banana)
    >Cheese
    >Cottage Cheese
    >Yogurt
    >Lean meats (lean turkey bacon, mini sausages) - could mix it in with the eggs to be more filling...
    >Salads with veggies and chicken
    >Stirfry
  • It was a real test with the mask and all. Im seeing that doctor for depression and anxiety. He thought is was strange to but he said it could be because I was burning alot of energy being anxious. I have calmed down alot over the past few weeks.

By reliable, I just mean getting the same, or similar, results over a long period of time. Despite the 'high tech'-ness of it all, those masks are leaky, and the test is still just an estimation. To see such a drastic change in your BMR is indicative of a poorly-controlled test more than anything. Did you have caffeine before either test? Exercise? Particularly stressed? Was the mask leaking at all? Anxiety can affect your metabolic rate in the very short term, but just relaxing for a few weeks isn't going to cut all of your metabolic functions in half.

Be careful with yogurt, some brands have A LOT of sodium! It shocked me when I first started to read the labels.

    Good luck!:flowerforyou:
  • I was extreamly anxious with the first test. I almost had an anxiety attack but the second one was much easier. That is what the doctor said it could have been alot of anxious energy. It just went down so much I was eating to many calories and started gaining weight.

    Thanks for the help.
